The 3rd Generation motors have the "High Pressure Common Rail" fuel system, in other words electronically fired injectors, the computer controls all the fuel mapping, similar to an EFI gas-burner. Same as a Powerstroke/Duramax. More power, less noise, but more complicated, and if you have to buy injectors you better have plenty of money! The 2nd Generation VP44 fuel pump uses sensors to adjust fuel timing and pressure, with "Dumb" injectors, I like it better, one of the main reasons I opted for it over the new one, the noise!!
