Okay, Now I'll chime in! In the service manual it is referred to as the Ambient Air Sensor. It comes into play when you activate cold weather fast idle. It also plays a part in determining battery charging rate.

now i don't know if it is the same sensor in our trucks but i helped a friend out with his 97 jeep grand Cherokee and there was a sensor under the battery and all it did was not let the engine crank over unless it had something on top of it pushing down kind of like a (hey your battery just flew out of the truck) which would maybe shut the engine down ? not sure here guys but i know for a fact that it had to be pushed down to get the jeep to start. is this the same sensor we talking about. the one in the jeep just had a negative wire running to it. any ideas?

What is the resistance of the battery sensor? Can you delete it?

New alternator only charges at a 13. 6 volt rate. I'm thinking the battery sensor has something to do with it.

Thanks, I went through that thread and the other thread referenced in it. I'll start checking tomorrow and report back.

I drove truck today.

From home, started truck, voltage went to 13. 2, started charging right up to 13. 6 and stopped at 13. 6 (only took about 20 seconds to get to 13. 6). Drove 20 miles.

Never got above 13. 6. Stopped truck for a couple of hours, started right up. Same 13. 2 to 13. 6 and stopped at 13. 6. Drove 25 miles.

Started truck again, same 13. 2 to 13. 6. Drove 10 miles to home.

It is charging quickly, but only to 13. 6. Use to charge to 14. 1.

I'll check voltages at battery sensor tomorrow.

Something is stopping the charging process at 13. 6.

I relocated my batteries to the truck bed. I didn't know what it's for so I just left it plugged in. I 'd like to delete it if I can without hurting the charging system.

The Batt temp sensor is used forfine tuning the charge out put. Remove it the truck will still charge but you will have a code set.
