The silencer ring is a ring on the inlet of the turbo. This makes the turbo quieter otherwise you will get a "Turbo Whistle" This is held in with a Spring ring C clip.

My new Turbo don't have a Silencer and boy you do hear it. !!

The silencer ring is the factory installed ring that is inside your turbo in the compressor housing. What you need to do is get a flat head screwdriver and take of the black tubing that connects your air box to your turbo at your turbo to where you can see the turbine. The silencer ring is the 3/4 inch wide flat silver ring that is kept in by a thin black retainer ring. The retainer ring has a small gap where you can put your flat head and wedge it in between it and the housing. Pop out the retainer ring and then the silencer ring will just fall out. Good luck.

I didnt notice any change on mine. I can just hear the turbo starting to spool up from the very beggining which I like. Dosent sound any different on top end with wot thought, just lowere rpms.

Don't replace it once it has come out. Some members have reported the retainer ring becoming turbo food after trying to put it back in once removed.

Took it out. I like the sound! I don't think I'll be putting it back in, the ring and the retainer somehow fell in the trash can.

keep in mind your significant other may complain. it is a high pitched whistle that comes through especially in the passenger side (where the turbo lives and where they usually sit). i installed an AFE with their PG7 and that increased the noise enough... . from the turbo and from the wife... . that i left the silencer ring alone!

Ring Removal Same on a 2004?

Is the procedure the same on 2004 trucks. I grew up around locomotives and really get off to the noise from turbos. I would like to remove my silencer ring as well, if I have one. This is the first turboed vehicle I have owned, it is also the first diesel I have owned.

Thanks in advance!!
