Attention: TDR Forum Junkies Yesterday I noticed that a tube about 30" long was hanging down from my 98 2500's rear axle. After removing the spare tire and looking closer, I saw that it comes from the top of the junction, where the brake line from the proportioning valve down to the axle splits into two lines, going to the two rear wheels.
It's rubber, wider and softer than the flexible line from the proportioning valve down to the axle. It has a nylon fitting on its loose end, with a slot on the end of the fitting.
The fitting is dirty. It looks like that end of the tube has not actually been connected to anything - just tucked away by a metal clip that held it onto some sheet metal nearby. It seems to have just come loose from its original position and then hung down.
I can't find where it used to be tucked away. I can't find anything about it in the shop manual. The brakes work just fine.
What it this tubing for? Where was it originally tucked away? Does it matter that it dragged on the road for a short time and got a bit worn down on the end? Does it need to be replaced? What happens if I disconnect it to replace it?
