Saturday I was doing some minor exhaust work on the pipe, and before I finished up, I creeped around underneath to check for loose or broken parts. So as I checked all the hangers/bolts/clamps on the exhaust and moved near the motor, right behind the turbo, on the part that is stamped with the "HOLSET" name, I noticed a part coming out of the housing, very near where the tube going from the oil pan to the turbo is. The best way to describe it is it looks very similiar (albeit much smaller) to the lever that connects the transfer case shifter to the case itself, that moves the gears around inside the Tcase. So I would assume that the part on the turbo also must move some type of butterfly valve or other device that is in the turbo. Any ideas?

While I am at it, I would assume that the tube running from the oil pan to the turbo is the route the oil takes to cool the turbo?

The lever you mention operates the wastegate door inside of the turbine housing.

The tube from the bottom of the turbo that connects to the bottom of the block next to the pan is the oil drain tube. There is a high pressure braided line that connects to the top of the turbo that supplies oil to it.
