I was taking a picture for another thread and got to looking. I have no clue what this is or what it does. Can someone clue me in? I am thinking it has something to do with the pollution control.

Yes sir. If you look at the picture on the cap, it shows a crude picture of a hand about to open a hot radiator.

It is under pressure when hot, unlike the older "overflow bottles".

21 psi cap.

If you open up the coolant system, drain the coolant, how do you refill it? Vent the entrapped air? They removed the traditional radiator cap. The owners manual indicates a dealer service issue. Just asking for a friend.

When I replaced the actuator on my 14 I ended up replacing roughly 4 gallons of coolant. I simply removed the upper radiator hose from the engine side and filled the radiator until full. Installed hose, topped off overflow bottle and started truck. From there it's a matter of topping off the bottle as the thermostat cycles.

Well I hope a Mod comes up in the next 5 years to be able to refill the system because I am NOT having a stealership do it.

From the manual:

COOLANT SYSTEM AIR EVACUATION
Evacuating or purging air from the cooling system involves the use of a pressurized air operated vacuum generator. The vacuum created allows for a quick and complete coolant refilling while removing any airlocks present in the system components.

Isn't there a bleed tube on the passenger side of the engine about mid-point? I know there is on my 6.7L engine that is used to let air out of the coolant system. You would need to remove the plug in the tube to let air out. See pic

Man, all I do is pull the hose, drain it. Filled it and then park at an incline and let her burp, then fill to arrow! Done! Never had a problem....

Thats how it works, even without an incline.
Never done anything more at any vehicle for a coolant change.
Drained it, filled it, drank a Beer.

I can see that being an essential tool when trying to make money. Not so much for a DIY when you have the time to watch it cycle through a few heat/cool cycles.

Having performed a few drain & fills on my 2014 RAM 3500......the high idle feature certainly accelerates the burping process.
