How well would the Dodge/Cummins hold out.....

Jeep Liberty Diesel

I was looking at a 94 Dodge 3500 2wd on ebay. It is an automatic and has a column shift, but has a shifter on the floor like a T-case shifter. It has what looks like a "D" and a "N" on it. I'm assuming that it is something like a T-case where you could completely dissconnect the drivetrain, but it is factory. I've never seen this before. My 94 was a standard. My dad's 95 was an auto, but didn't have this feature. Anybody know? I just thought it was interesting.

Never heard of or seen one myself but there it is

Me neither, must be something hokey, maybe it was some aftermarket thing, one of those companies that get trucks from the factory and do conversions.

I think it may be OEM. There is a section covering it in my FSM.

I saw one a few years back on a 2wd 3500 Public works truck up for auction by the city. You can bet if it was available and expensive they would get it. They had a hydraulic power supply on it that ran a dump bed, hydraulic remotes for jackhammers, tampers, and other various devices. It is a functional lever. This truck was a manual 5 speed. Everyone thought it was a 4wd, the front beam was mammoth, looked like a dana 60 they forgot to put the pumpkin in. Nice option, I thought about buying the parts for mine, but they were really expensive to say the least.

Had one in the shop this week with the 2wd PTO. It was a factory option in '95 for sure, not sure about other years. The unit is an NP021D, which is a one-speed PTO. Kinda cool, and extremely rare. I think the option code for it was DHY.

A neighboring fire department has a '95 3500 2wd rescue truck equipped witht his feature. They use it to power on scene electrical and lighting. Its pretty neat.
