Charlie Daniels Controversy

Lately something has been wrong with me and im trying to to find out what it is. . Lately if been having real bad chronic fatigue, no matter what im always run down and tired. Yeah i get a few sprints of energy but something just isnt right. . I notice this has all started when i started working out again. Some people ask me about my diet and sleep habits and there both in check. I eat about 285g protein and about 475 g of carbs a day i really dont keep track of calories or fat. I know ive done it a few days and the split is usually somewhere around 45% carbs/ 40% protein/ 15% fat and last time i checked calories where around 3500 per day. I eat all clean foods. . carbs= oatmeal, potatoes, wheat, weight gainer (86g carbs per serving) and for my protein = chicken, tuna, other fishes, egg whites. I usually get between 7 - 9 hrs of sleep and i only train 3-4 days a week with weights and i do cardio id say 5/7 days a week. Ive tried drinking coffee, caffeine tablets, even ephedrine and nothin is helping. Anyone here think my body could be still fighting my injuries from my accident? my back is doing better and i just finished therapy. And i know my back is a decent shape because ive been doing things like deadlifts with no pains. no moving light weight either. . I dont understand what it is and i figured id post this and maybe someone could tell me what i should have done or try out before i get medical attention. .

Thx

Nick

If you came in and told me that history, I'd recommend some lab stuff - blood count (CBC), chemistry profile (bunch of tests to check kidney, liver, sodium, potassium, thyroid, etc, etc), urine test, etc. If you're under 30 and never had mono, that's something else to look at. The usual history and physical exam is important too but I wouldn't expect much yield from the physical, although ya never know till you look.

A good detailed history, aka spending enough TIME with somebody to get to know them and hear what they have to say is probably the most valuable tool a doc has in his little black bag. One of many useful tips I was taught in med school was, "If you listen to a patient long enough he'll tell you what's wrong with him. " This has proven to be true over the past 38 years of my experience (ER & Family Practice).

The lab work is good for basic screening - sometimes turns out to be just a fishing expedition - but it's helpful to rule out serious stuff and establishes a baseline for use in the future. Like doing oil analysis on the Cummins. Lab test for the truck.

I won't venture any guesses on a diagnosis here but I will tell you it could be in the areas of infectious diseases, metabolic issues, etc. and, last but not least, psychological. The way I approach diagnosis is to figure out all the possibilities based on the H&P and lab results then rank them in order of "Which of these could kill this guy in the shortest amount of time. " (Don't laugh, works for me. ) Fortunately other medical axioms come into play here which definitely work in your favor: "Most common is most common" "Look for uncommon presentations of common conditions and common presentations of uncommon conditions. "

Now to address possible psychological causes of the symptoms you mention - the most common psych cause of what you describe is depression. The BIG caution here is that all of people's problems fall into two broad categories: Organic and Inorganic. Organic is the physical stuff and inorganic is the psychological stuff. Cardinal Rule #1: Always rule out the organic stuff first. Remember the guy who spent three years on the shrink's couch and eventually died of a slow growing brain tumor.

Here's the deal, My Man - set up an appointment with your friendly family doc and get this thing figured out so you can devote more of your attention to YOUR TRUCK!

BTW, if any of the above provokes questions, fire away - it's what I live for.

Hey, this isn't woman trouble is it? (Get thee behind me, Satan)

Another Thought

Just remembered another Pearl of Wisdom.

At the end of my fourth year in med school I was on the outpatient clinic rotation. Our clinical instructor was a very nice lady doc named Masterson - we called her Bat; she was one of the guys. She gathered us up for a little conference during the last week before graduation and said: "Gentlemen, before you are unleashed on the unsuspecting public I'd like to summarize your knowledge infusion over the past four years and give you something helpful to take with you as you begin your careers. "

"Most people's problems can be divided into two categories: Those who are getting laid too much and those who are not getting laid enough. Unfortunately, you will find that, in the majority of cases, it's the latter. " Oo.

a new way to say it

Most people's problems can be divided into two categories: Those who are getting laid too much and those who are not getting laid enough

OR those who are married and those who are Not. Nick stay single. Wedding Cake has hormones that kill a woman's sex drive. Stay dating her as long as you can. Oo.

WOW! thanks for taking the time and helping me out. I had no clue you were in med school and all that :). Yeah ive been hearing depression to but im not sad or anything. Lately things are going great. I have my truck back, me and alexandra are doing good, Ill admit i am stressed out but can being stressed make this happen to myself? And yes im going to get the blood tests done because 1) id like to know and 2) ive taken supplements that could screw around with some levels of many things  . So thanks for all the advice and everything. . I appreciate it.

No but ill admit i saw some pictures over there that scared the **** out of me and probably made my blood pressure shoot up :-laf

Another thought - I've had a few people come in with similar complaints who had been taking Metabolife. Fatigue, aching, no energy, yadayada. Nothing else wrong. Did some blood work and found their liver tests were whacked. Not lot like we might see with failure due to alcohol, acute hepatitis, etc. but high nonetheless. Told them to quit the supplement, rechecked the liver profile a few weeks later - all back to normal. What would YOU think? At the moment I don't recall what it was in the supplement formula I suspected. If it comes to me I'll post it.

Yea, stay single for now. You got lotsa time. You can always cry on our shoulders if you get lonely. We're always ready to do an intervention if necessary when a comrade looks like he might be about to fall. (No offense to RottinRhonda intended here. )

here is the thermogenics i used to take was stacker 2 w/ ephedra but i stopped it for a few weeks, its normal to get a "crash" after taking that stuff. This is different though. :(

Can't and won't argue with the Doctors advice.

If it was myself I would try a couple days of red meat in my meals and see if I felt better.

whenever I start to get run-down my self test always includes these two points:

hydration and vitamins (iron/vit B)

Doc66, Maybe you are right, that it is Mono... . didn't that used to be called the kissing disease? Spread by kissing multiple partners???

Go heavy 0n the dead lifts squats and the good mornings! In all seriousness maybe you need to take a couple of weeks off. Sounds like you could be draining yourself if you were not completely better. If i have been training hard for several weeks in a row i need to take 1 or 2 off to recouperate a little. Its tough getting old!

I just wish my Dr. talked to me, comes in for 5 minutes and is gone again. No wonder I have a bunch of prescriptions that haven't done anything for me. John

On the first reply where lab work was recomended, that is always a good thing, also, there are 2 things that will affect energy.

Thyroid is one where you have to find out what your sleeping temp is. Don't know your age but anyone over 25-30 gets affected... . Take your temp right when you wake up. If you are 97. 8- to 98 or lower, you need extra thyroid. (my mom was 96 and she takes 1 1/2 grains)... . That helps you burn off food while you sleep (like a kid remember?) I take 1 3/4 grains of the armour thyroid and I am at 98 when I wake up.

Do a search on the internet under "COLD BODY SYNDROME" and get prepared to read a bit!!

The other thing that zaps your thyroid and which in turn makes you have more fatigue, skin gets bad, hair falls out, eyes are affected as well..... is ASPARTAME in foods. The main sweetener in Diet sodas is Aspartame. It is, in it's basic form, toxic waste,... . There is a Lawsuit right now for the government to ban Aspartame.

I have stopped drinking diet sodas and watching the labels of foods to make sure there is no aspartame. One time I looked at a childrens Gum "fruit by the foot" and it had sugar AND Aspartame!!! Unbelievable!!..... There are others that have SPENDA. This is a process where sugar is zaped by bleach so there is less calories. This is not as bad but there is bleach in the equation.....

Calories and carbs are one thing but you have to look at the other stuff and search on the internet on what they do.

One other thing, If you spend alot of time indoors, weight lifting, The indoor air is very unhealthy... (called the "sick building syndrome)... . You need to find something that has Ozone and negative Ions to clean the air. We use a unit called the alpine air machine. Make low level Ozone to kill odors and Neg Ions to settle dust and spores. Negative Ions also help promote a more relaxed and "happier" feeling. Like when you are near a stream or waterfall, there are Tons of Neg. Ions there.....

Hope all this helps.

Eric

EDIT: Just looked at your profile, you are 19..... OK so maybe your thyroid by itself is OK BUT... the thing I said that ASPARTAME zaps thyroid might be your trouble. SO If you avoid Aspartame, your Body temp and thyroid will go back to normal..... As when you said you had the fatigue when you started working out, seems like you need the extra thyroid... . Look at the foods you have, If you have low or no sugar foods, (sugar free, etc. ) chances are it has Aspartame in it. GET RID OF THEM! Buy only naturally sweetened foods.
