I plan to take some pictures. I was going to go over and snap a few at the body shop, but my wife thought that was excessive?? I just thought it would be neat for my scrap book, do you guy's feel that was "Excessive"? Let me know, maybe I have drifted over the edge??

I have several additions to install once the truck gets back. I ordered and have received a dual in-line steering stabilizer from Skyjacker. One Rock Ring, from Spyder Customs (it bolts to the front diff, and is suppose to protect the differential from impact damage). Also I have installed a under-cover strobe light system, the wiring and electronics are in place, just need to finish the headlights and tail lights. Speaking of which, I ordered some Toucan clear euro tail and corner lights from Truck Performance. And there is a brand new set of Alcoa Hotshot wheels with Trxas tires that haven't been mounted yet, I need to seal them with Zoop Seal first.

Take the pics!

Definitely take those pics!

The Mrs. will shake her head and mumble, but it's nice to see the work in progress...

These trucks do hold there value pretty good, before I bought my 03 new, I was really looking hard at used one's and the problem I had was away's a day late response. Well I just sold it last night, or where signing the papers as we speak. I usually always try to buy from a individual instead of a dealership, used that is. Especially one with good maintenance records, that's important to me. A lot of people that have the money to trade out every year or two could care less about maintenance records or even changing the oil. I know of a couple people, talking about the oil change deal they have never changed it out just add to it. They say why should I, I'm going to trade it in and get a new one soon.

I would agree hole heartedly, if possible buying from the owner is best. Many will have records to show or receipts available. Something I always do when I trade off a vehicle, is put a note in the owners manual and let them know if they have any questions about this vehicle, too just call. I always get a call, and have even sold some accessories that I removed prior to the trade. Also every vehicle we ever traded, was sold in less then a week. All but two were sold the next day. We always take good care of them and it shows in the amount we receive and the time it takes to sell.

The ones that refuse to change the oil are wrong, but when viewed thru there eyes, I guess I can see their point. I could not do that to the engine.

I think a lot of the pricing has to do with demand in your market. Supply and demand have a lot to do with it and if there are a lot of folks wanting low miles CTD trucks and there are is not a lot of them to be found you can bet they will bring a better price than in areas where that is not the case. Secondly, these trucks definately hold their value. I purchased my truck 6 months ago with 140k on it for about $19k. I now have 164k on it and my KBB value is about $15k. My truck is loaded out with every option except security alarm and leather seats. Since then I've added my gages, K&N, straight pipe, and Power Puck totaling about $1,500 and replaced my clutch, LP, and VP44 for another $3,000. I absolutely love my truck and the only way I'd trade it is for a new truck or a low miles 12v. I drive my truck a lot and can't quit grinning when I drive it (especially with the coal smoke coming out the back ;) ) Anywho, if you are in the market go look where these trucks are a dime a dozen and you may find a better deal.

"maybe I have drifted over the edge??"

No maybe about it, but... . y-not? You only live once (despite rumors and my reincarnated dog)

crunching numbers

When you see how much they get for a used truck and figure the payments , it can get interesting in a hurry. I looked and looked for a $15000. 00 truck in '02. The typical truck around here was 20 grand for a '96 or '97 with 100K . Add to the fact that interest rates were higher for the older trucks with no warranty and I gave up and bought new. Got a c&c because it was what I really needed and it is still trouble free.

That being said,I saw one month later a really nice 2500 for 14. 5K with 65K miles. I had also seen how the owner drove it easy and kept it clean.

I gave 26500 for mine and rolled it in to five and a half percent interest.

I understand your frustration. When I was shopping for my first CTD in 1995 the going dealer price was sticker plus 5 grand. It was crazy. In Texas it did not matter where you went. They were selling every one of them. I eventually found a dealer to sell me one at 700 over invoice if I ordered it.

They are a lot more affordable now.

I just checked kelly blue book on my 02 and it is at $25,500. I had it listed for sale for a while at $30,000 and got a lot of calls. When I would not budge they would not call back. I guaranteeeeeeeeeeeeeee I could sell it for 28,500. I like it too much.

The dealership took my 96 ctd as trade in sight unseen for book value.

Once your in, your in. Get one, keep it in good shape and when you trade in you get further ahead. Present truck payment $145. 00

:D

Guys where should i look for the truck? Where is the best market where there is more supply than demand. California sure aint the place to be haha! It never is. . I mean never

It is real easy to tell that the market is demanding much more for the trucks then the Blue Book says. They raised the tax here for Diesel trucks to help them recover more tax money as reflected in there resale value. Mine got hit with an additional 1500. 00 dollar value. They also now tax the travel trailers by there resale value as reported in the book. All this made for an extra 375. 00 when I went to renew my license tags.
