To give you all an Idea of what happened this was on hwy 88 crossing over from Carson City Nv. on jan 4th of 07 what a way to start the year . well we had already gone through so really Nasty snow and ice at the time this happened I was no more then 20 mph had trans in 2nd gear was locked into 4 wheel high and we just started a small curve when the front end hit a solid sheet of Ice you can see for the pictures what happened from there needless to say the box that I had just picked up helped with saving our lives it ended up landing under the pass. side of the edge of the bed and held what was left of the cab up .

Glad to say both myself and my wife walked out of this with a minor cut each and alot of brusies Lucky for me I was on drivers side cause at 7 ft tall it was a tight fit getting out the drivers side window . to say the good Lord was watching over us that day is a understatement . hope to bring truck to may madness if things work out .

lucky that there was no frame damage and nothing more then body work and front springs were wasted . Well as for a crew it was myself and my son and a couple of good friends thank god one as use of a backhoe the body swap took us less then 4 hours from start to finish for cab and bed and that was the hardest part. I would have it running and driving already but I had a minor vein surgery 2 weeks ago and have been house bound sense but I will be back at it this weekend finishing up the front springs and putting dual shocks on front. Main reason I

decided to rebuild this truck is its been part of my family sense 1989 when I bought it from Nellis AFB in Vegas it started life as a 2 wheel drive truck and I have done all the work to where it is now so to say its like one of my Kids that's putting it lightly . funny thing was tow company up in Pioneer Ca. offered to take it off my hands as long as I paid recovery fee cause it was totaled I looked at the lady an said sorry its coming back home and it will live again . So not to bad less then 2 months down time and it will be back to flying up and down hwy 99. Wave or smile as you go by if you ever see me. It's a big truck for a bigger guy :)

After seeing those pictures it almost makes me want to put a roll bar of sometype in my truck, the cab sure didn't offer much support to protect your head. Glad no one was hurt.

Wow, I'm glad everyone is OK. It must have been scary to watch the cab flatten completely when they recovered it. Roll bars don't seem so out of style when looking at your slides.

The biggest thing that made me mad was the little dummy tow truck driver drug it all over the road trying to get it to flip back onto its wheels but yeah as I cut the old body off with a sawsall it scared me how bad the body folded but I will say dodge does make a tough body cause it was a really hard hit when we flipped .

We were on on way back from Reno/ Carson City for a business trip . when we hit the edge of the mountains that day there was already some snow on the road after sliding around for the first couple miles I stopped and locked 4 wheel drive in we drove over the top at 8400 foot level and were working our way back down the Calif side now grant it I believe that we were the first vehicle to get that far at the time the accident happened I was in second gear on trans doing no more then 20 mph we started into the curve and as we did this I felt the front end loose grip and from there we both knew that we were going to hit the embankment but didnt know what was going to happen after that. Well after hitting embankment and edge of road there was a ditch/Snow runoff when the left front wheel hit that it snapped the steering box shaft in half and at the same time popped bead on left front wheel and the rest you can see . right after this happened there were several people that stopped and helped . There was a guy that was going up the hell and stopped n turned around to call CHP after officer arrived he said to get away from truck due to icy condition of road he was yelling at all the car's n trucks that were on that part of the road to not hit there brakes . It was so bad that when Cal trans showed up with snow plow they had to drop sinder down to even back the snowplow up ahd he had chains on Now tell me they should of not closed that road due to condition? yeah right . when he plowed the road there was close to 1 1/2 inches of solid ice on road way .

but being that I only have basic insurance on truck I choose not to even tell insurance company about this and just fix it myself .

Val

Wow

Glad to see the family made it through okay. I too am a little concerned about the integrity of the cabs on these trucks. I bought some performance mods off a fellow TDRer who had a similiar accident and his cab collapsed in the same fashion:eek:

Great work on the rebound though... ... ... ... .

Like all of our trucks it's a work in progress and I hope to have it back on the road this weekend when I do get it road worthy I will post more pictures . I do want to say Thank you for all the well wishes its been tough to rebuild but its just something I have to do . One day at a time and one step at a time is how I believe .
