Im planning to change all the fluids in my transmission and differentials and was just wondering how much I will need to do it. I was wanting to change to Royal Purple fluids if I can afford it. Ive heard of putting about 7 or 8 quarts in the 6 speeds, but should I put 75W or 85W in or something else entirely? And how much will my differentials take and what kind should I use? Also I read somewhere that if I change to Royal Purple's stuff, I wont need any additive for posi in the rear end, is that true?

J,

Be very cautious of which fluids you use in your truck. The NV5600 requires a specific fluid (offered by several manufactures). I'm not sure if Royal Purple does or does not make this type of fluid. I personally like to run synthetics in every application. Front and Rear Diffs - I use Valvoline 75w-90, Transfer Case - Valvoline Full Synthetic ATF-4 and I use Redline MTL. There are many fluids available so go with your personal favorite, however make sure they are compatible and in the case of your rear end, make sure that the fluid carries a friction modifier for your LSD otherwise add it on you own.

I have used royal purple in my diffs as well as redline both have a additive already for lim-slip diffs. I found that redline was cheaper than royal purple. have 80k miles on synthetics and will keep using. for the nv5600 I have used 2 types penz/synchromesh and redline mtl. and redline mtl was cheaper and have 40kish on redline I have used the nv5600 filter the entire time. I usually put it all the way up to the drain plug plug it and then the top bolt on the cover that is used for the filter I use a smaller tube and put in 1 extra quart. you can also pull the stick shift console and about 40 bolts later put the oil in from the top. you will find that there is alot of diff opionions on this. make sure you use lim-slip additive if it applies and oil rated for the nv5600 and not the nv4500 diff oils and diff needs. hope this helps.

got amsoil and almost a 1/4 million miles, everything still going strong. amsoil has the correct blend for everything, I know it is not cheap, but neither are repairs or rebuilds...
