I have just heard that in late 2000 they switched to the nv5600 with a 1 3/8" input shaft. This was with the addition of the H. O.

I am just making sure.

so if it still an nv5600 how hard is it to change the input shaft to an 1 3/8"
Most change the shaft for higher HP - if you turn up the engine HP the smaller shaft may break.

Changing it is straightforward, but you'll also need a new clutch and flywheel because all the 1 3/8 clutches are 13".

Changing the input shaft on an NV5600 is not the same as changing one on an NV4500. You have to dissassemble the transmission from back to front to get the input shaft out of it. Its a lot of work, can be done, I have never done it personally though. I've thrown some pretty decent HP through mine, sled pulling it, and lots of heavy towing.

1952280 YJ183674 4950 - the last eight places of the VIN (the truck was built near the end of the very short model year 2000 in South Saint Louis.

Transmission: 402 - the NV5600 transmission P/N 52108402 that is used in standard output 4x4 Cummins/Rams.

Transfer Case: 27AB - the NV241HD transfer case P/N 52105027AB that was used in 5 speed & 6 speed Rams equipped with a V-10 or Cummins engine.

I also have the 6sp with 1-1/4" input shaft. Have heard parts for our trannies are hard to come by because they only made a limited amount before going to the 1-3/8" shaft.

The difference in input shaft size only causes four items to be different between the 1-1/4" input shaft & 1-3/8" input shaft NV5600's - the input shaft, input shaft retainer, input shaft seal & the blocker ring. It seems to me the change would not have much influence on parts availability unless it was one of those four parts.

As I was saying it is not only 4 parts that are different between the Older 6 speed boxes and the common newer ones. .
