The adapter plate on the NV4500 transmission that the tranfer case hooks to there are 6 or 8 bolts that hold this adapter on. I want to pull this off and I see there is a bolt head I have never come across before. I was wanting to know what it is and are they a booger to get out? Thanks in advance.

I am guessing you are trying to remove the rear housing? Those bolts use a 10mm, 12 point socket. If your socket isn't rounded out, they actually engage pretty nice.

If you want to get technical, they are called Ferry head screws. Darned if I know why, 12 point always works for me! ;)

Make sure you have a good quality 10mm 12point to remove them as ther are tight and come with thread lock from the factory. I would recomend no less than crafstman but personally I will only use a Snap-on on these.

Thanks for the help. Do you use a 1/4" or 3/8" socket and will a wrench work as I have a snap on 10mm wrench. Thanks.
