I am thinking of putting in bigger injectors. Right now the truck is stock. (see sig) I am considering DD2's, but no box, since I have an HO. What are my options for a boost fooler? I can't see buying a box for several hundred dollars for just that function.

I'd personally go for the box first with a boost fooler then do injectors and clutch later:D I'v done 7500 miles with mine without any codes and equal mileage if not a little better. Unfortuinately I wand injectors now:{

I'm no super-tech, but I've read many times that the Diesel Dynamics TTPM box (EZ equivalent) has less timing than the EZ box. Both have the boost fooler function as well as some fueling improvements you WILL notice (I had an EZ on my ETH for a weekend with no other mods, including NO boost elbow, and it was a real nice stand alone mod. I don't know the price diff for a boost fooler versus the TTPM or EZ, but I'd take the extra HP for a couple hundred bucks.

Just my humble $. 02

Practical solutions sells a nice boost fooler. If you are worried about timing, you could go with a TST box and use it for playing only. That way you get fuel when you want it, a boost fooler and no big timing changes.

Rod at Wildcat recommended I go with the box first, then the injectors, on the theory that I would already have a boost fooler built into the box (PM3 in my case) and extra $$ would not be wasted on something essentially redundant with any of the boxes.

I put on the PM3 box and really like it. I have so far been able to control myself with the loud pedal and the adjustable remote.

Then when I added the Mach II injectors, I have the PM3 box "off" for now, but the boost fooling function still works, allowing me to pull 29psi on the injectors with no codes.

My $0. 02

I think you will like the DD2s. I went with Stage III injectors and no box. . I was really happy with the set up. I have since bought a very heavy trailer 13K pounds and have returned my truck to stock over concerns of EGT. Pulling heavy I could not keep my EGTs down where I like them and I could not use 5th gear without pushing them to 1200 degrees. Just something to think about.

I still have my Stage III and boost fooler as I might put them back in some day when I have the money for a different turbo and exhaust.

hi, i've got the dd2's and boost fooler. i pull a 6000lb travel trailer thru the smokies and really like the combination. egt's have never gone above 1000f during the summer.

Just get the box with the fooler already. You'll do it eventually and it'll cost you twice as much. Tell him Jason. :{

I have a 4000 pound trailer and had no problems with EGT in the Sierras. I dominated all hills against Chevy or Ford. 6000 pounds is a far cry from 13K.

Forget the box don't waste your money (yet). I was really happy with just Stage IIIs. When I did get a SuperChip, I had way to much power and I really thought I might snap my drive shaft.

With Stage III my truck dyno'ed at 314 HP and 619 lbft torque. Stock I am supposed to hae 245 hp and 460 lbft torque. The SuperChip was suppposed to add yet another 70 hp and 160 lbft of torque. This is well above what a stock drivetrain, like mine, can handle. Thus the reason I returned to stock. I can't afford to break everything at once.

Everyone has their opinion, but I believe to much power will end up putting you on the side of the road. Why keep the Ford owners company?

Too Much Power?

Forget the box don't waste your money (yet). I was really happy with just Stage IIIs. When I did get a SuperChip, I had way to much power and I really thought I might snap my drive shaft.

As you can see from my sig how my truck is set up and I also tow in excess of 10,000 lbs I never once thought I might break my driveshaft. The manner in which you drive is probably the contributing factor in your fear of driveline breakage. So I also believe there is no such thing as too much power unless you're too unskilled to handle it. :(

See my signature - our truck spends 90% of its time towing our 13,500 lb 5th wheel. The only change I would make to our setup is to go with the DD TTPM instead of the EZ - IMHO, the EZ is a little too aggressive with timing advance for the HO when towing heavy, particularly with bigger injectors. Max EGT's when towing run about 1250 degF with the EZ's data link cable plugged in, about 1100 degF with it unplugged - they were 1300 degF when the truck was stock.

Perhaps if you had been sitting in my passenger seat when " going up a very steep hill in second, the torque twist on my chassis lifted my left front tire off the ground" you would probably believe that the drive shaft could break.

I see that you are from PA so maybe all those toll roads keep you from ever experiencing the potential of your Cummins. It has certainly fogged you rational thinking.

Well here is my 2 cents. I started with a Bully Dog Torque Dog box. Worked great, but of course wanted more. I put in the boost elbow that came with the box and then added DD2's, 4 inch exhaust and the AFE filter. I now have 36 pounds of boost, 28 before the injectors with the elbow in. My temps struggle to get 1100, hard enough to ever see 1000. I pull 8000 pounds and so far so good. I have a TST fueling box that will be going on the truck once the clutch is replaced, I am hoping I can stack the boxes to make them both work. Shall see.

As I said, your lack of skill when shifting going uphill would lead you to break a driveshaft. Just for your info, you would fail a CDL examination if you would do that during an over the road exam. I don't understand the toll road comment though.

Like I said you judgement has been fogged: Not only do I have the minimal skills that you mention but I do have a CDL. Thank you for you inputs. Highlight my name in the Travel Companion so if you ever come to SOCAL I can come to your assistance.

Have a Great Weekend.
