I looked at my coolant overflow and it seems to need some, actually, it looked empty, but since it's not green, I don't know what to use. The owners manual was no help.

I thought it was orange, but the only orange stuff I can find is GM coolant.

Anybody know?

Our Coolant has the same cooler as trans fluid. Its special 50000 mile coolant. DO NOT USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT! Call your dealer or maybe someone here will chime in.

I know that which is why I have not done anything. I just wish they would print something in the book, or under the hood, other than "use factory approved coolant"

I'm pretty sure it's called hoat coolant. I'm not sure where you can buy it besides the dealer though. You might check your block heater and there are some plugs on the top of the head that were loose on mine.

I have been told that the manuals for the new trucks specify HOAT anti-freeze (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) I have a second gen so Don't qoute me but that being the case, Zerex makes a product called G-05 that is HOAT. It is yellow but that is not important just don't mix dexcool with what is in the system now. I put G-05 in my truck with no issues, it can be found at Auto-Zone

Zerex G-05

According to page 0-4 of the service manual, the truck uses HOAT coolant. It says it's a 5 year/100,000 mile ethylene-glycol formulation (BTW: HOAT is Hybrid Organic Additive Technology). They say only use Mopar brand (yeah, right), but any ethylene glycol HOAT formulation should be fine. There's also that new Peak (or is it prestone?) commercial I keep seeing that claims their stuff is 100% compatible with ALL coolants.

You might also check out this thread .

This is also an outstanding thread on 3g coolant options!

So we have confirmed that the Zerex G-05 is compatiable with our trucks and can be used to "top off" the system? Just want to make sure. Thank you.

I've been using the G-05 Zerex for a while now with no issue. I do think that a system should be THOUROUGHLY flush prior to changing coolant types. A 98. 5 truck has regular green anti-freeze, don't put anything else in other than green unless it get a real good flushing. Some guys have seen gel forming when two different types are mixed.

When I swapped over I put in straight water and put on 100 miles then dumped re-filled with water and did this twice more then put in the new anti-freeze. I did it at work so 100 miles was a round trip.

I apologize, I have bought an '03. I didnt state that in the post, and my sig doesnt point that out. I will keep green with green, and orange with orange. Thanks TurboTim1

Check your owners manual, I believe the 03's came with the HOAT but it may be orange or Red or something. The Zerex brand is yellow and if you have HOAT in there you can mix the different color HOAT's
