From reading the threads, it seems like a large number of the members use their trucks for Towing loads beyond the GCWR. Of course most of these trucks have been Bombed and modified to handle the load. I was just wondering what examples members could give of loads they are towing and the modifications needed to tow these big loads. I figured it would give me some stuff to brag about to friends while were talkin trucks.

Thanks

Denny

You can haul big loads without engine mods, it will just take you longer, but you should add an exhaust brake if you want to haul safely. A stock CTD pulls ok, it's the stock stopping that leaves much to be desired. See sig.

I'm Heavy

Just got back from a 40day trip with 5er. Got it all weighed at Post Falls ID by "aweigh-we-go". Kind of an eye opener. I was not over on any axle. . nor overloading any tires but... . My GCVW was 21300. 1300lbs over. Truck weighed 8400 with full tank,me,wife,

hitch, dog, some tools. Trailer weighed 12800 gross. It good to 15000.

When hooked up the truck weighed in at 11300... 300# over. Damn

I wish I had of looked at the weights and spec on truck before I bought it.

Anyway it pulled it well with EZ,and 275 injectors and whoaed good with Jacobs E brake.

Trailer is 11200 empty, dual furnaces, dual pane windows ,extra insulation blah blah, its heavy. I didn't take all I wanted to and I still gotta cut down somehwere.

FWIW

During hay season I haul 13 or 16 6'x6' round bales per trailer load. These bales are about 2,200lbs apeace so thats 28,600lbs on the small loads and if I use the bigger trailer it's 35,200lbs and that's not including the trailer waight. I don't pull this up on the highway just two lane county roads, but have never had any problems with getting it moving or stoping it. The 2 trailers have exellent brakes and I don't get over about 45mph. We purchased a small strait truck with a 350 Cummins in it this summer so I don't pull the big trailer any more but still play with the little loads. I also have pulled a small bulldozer, it wasn't that bad but real top heavy. Pulled the 4440 with duals on it last year, it's almost 15,000lbs and when I went through town I had to dodge stop lights. Looked pretty funny with my buddy hanging out the window to see if I could clear the lights.

What a truck:D

Me???

Is this question in reference about my recent GCVW haul of 53140 lbs? This admission has caused lots of views on my thread in the "towing and hauling" forum.

The truck was all stock. I will get some pics posted of the truck and load.

With my 97 the most I have hauled is when I had 15 3x3x3 boulders on my flatbed trailer.

with the 99 I have pulled the flatbed trailer with 14 of the big round hay bales. Each bale weighs about 1900 lbs and the trailer empty weighs about 5200 lbs.

So go ahead and load er down, these things are amazing!!:D

Heavy??? Naaa...

I've got a QC LB 2500 with a light weight of 7400, carry a 3100 lb camper, and tow a 7500 lb trailer.

That puts me 1700 lb over the GVW, but 2000 lb under the GCW. None of the tire/axle ratings are exceeded, so I figure it all equals out in the end.

Guys:

I pulled my 15K lb 5th wheel from Maryland to Texas and back again. Pulled awsome and stopped awsome. With a "few goodies", this Cummins really churns out the power.

101" wide 5er really tracks great too. I went through lots of narrow constructions with 18 wheelers inches on one side and the wall inches on the other. No rubs or scrapes.

That's right, we bad:D

I don't pull the most in here and probably won't but I want to get my transmission done first then the brake and I want to pull a 350 JD or Case just to say I did to the f@#d and c#$%y kids at work. :p

the normal load

The is the normal load during the harvest season. Wagon weighs 23500 normal load, and truck is 6500, so the total is 30k. This is my dad's truck by the way, 93 Centurion dodge.

Hey Nathan:

Nice picture. That looks pretty good. How's that truck do while pulling, is it turned up any? Gotta love the first generations, they are the best:D

The 93 is not turned up. I probably would shell the trans if it was. I grossed 53140 lbs the other week hauling grain. Just something about holding it to the floor in 4Lo to get it moving that worries me.
