I've never understood why they make reverse such a high gear.

The 2. 2 ratio in the 48RE, and all the Torqueflites from the 1950's that preceded it, is the only ratio available with the available planetaries. Going to a 4 or 5 speed auto gives a better reverse ratio.

Explains why the 68RFE has a 4. 44:1, but I would have thought they would have gone lower than 3. 54:1 on the AS68RC since its the C&C version.

There are times I would like a 15:1 reverse and times I want a 3:1. . But I guess the 5. 63:1 will have to do until I get 2Lo and have 15. 31:1 when needed.

Wow I learned something new!!! I will have to try out the 2wd low. . Not sure why I didnt know about this when I first installed my Dynatrac kit last year. thanks!!!!

thanks for all the thoughts and opinions. we did make the decision to keep using the stock setup. we rarely tow with the truck so being able to use 2wd low was not of importance. also the fact that not all achieved a mpg gain made it somewhat of a risk. the truck basically just gets run up and down the highway and we got almost 170k out of the originals so i felt comfortable with the choice we made. again thanks for all your help.

You don't lock the hubs. You just put it into 4WD-LOW and you have 2WD-LOW.

This is excellent for backing a trailer with a stick shift... especially if you have an aftermarket clutch... .

That's the main reason I installed free spins. With a CON OFE clutch that's a tad grabby it really makes a difference. Where I park my TT at home it is a slight incline and my front tires are on pavement as I do a 90* turn to get beside my garage and my rears end up on gravel. The small mpg increase I will get is a bonus. I haven't had them installed long enough to tell what it will be. Shadrach

I've been running the Dynatraxx free spin hubs for almost 150,000 miles now. I've noticed an increase of on average 1. 75 mpg since the kit was installled. With todays fuel costs the kit has paid for it almost twice now. add to the fact that the transfer case and front end are not turning or wearing out priceless.

I've had my hubs on for close to a year and love the way the truck drives with the hubs in free,to me it was worth the cost for the way it drives. As far as MPG goes, summer time at 55-65 mph,I've seen almost 2 mpg increase on trips. Day to day on trips to town and back I get at least 1 mpg. Love backing up in 2wd low range! So far the seals are holding up well with no slinging of grease or any other issues. I would do it again if I buy another truck.

I have had the spintec kit on my 96 for a couple of years. Would never go back, just the thought of never having to replace the cartrige wheel bearing again is worth it.
