What kind of spider is this?

I figure this is a long shot, but you never know who we have here as members. I'm looking to find out what kind of spider was crawling inside my boot. I forget sometimes to shake them out, never again after this

Looks like a common grass or wolf spider... ... can't tell the size... was it already dead from the boot funk?

hahaha no but he would have been if i hadn't have gotten him out of there. I should have put something next to him for scale, wasn't as big as the picture makes him out to be, i just wanted as much detail as possible. He was maybe the size of a quarter.

Looks like a wolf spider to me. They can get to be silver dollar size at my folks' place north of Sac, Ca. Most of them I see are quarter to half dollar size.

yeah after getting a place to start, it does appear to be a wolf spider. Did some reading, prett neat little critter.
