I'm currently having a new home built. The first thing I'm going to do when it's finished is build a home (shelter) for my 5er. I was thinking of just laying gravel under the shelter, but may pour concrete, depending on cost. Is there any advantage to one over the other? I'm aware that some people, no matter what the parking surface, put blocks under their wheels to get them off the ground. Not sure I understand the benefits of that. Does it protect the tires? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Concrete or asphalt would be nice just to provide a clean parking area. Other than that, I don't think it matters a bit. I keep my camper(s) in RV storage lots, which have always been gravel. I don't think the camper has enough smarts to care.

I think I have heard gravel or concrete so water drains away from the tires and they have a chance to dry and not rot.

I like gravel because it drains really well.

Years ago it was thought that long term storage on concrete would dryrot tires. I don't know if there is any proof of this or if todays tires are subject to this. Concrete gets my vote though and if your worried about degredation, put some kind of mat down that will allow minimize moisture being trapped under the tire "print". Maybe some of those doormats made from old tires?
