Hey guys, I am wondering what kind of tach can be used with your 12V engines. Can any aftermarket tach like a from Mopar Performance V8 tach work or does a diesel specific tach like a autometer, etc type of tack need to be used. I know on our first gens only certain manufacturers can be used in order to work. Thanks for any input.

Check out enterprise engine performance they have digital tachs that are the same size as the boost and egt etc... gauges. I have one in my puller and it works great, has memory, and built in shift light. I think their refered to as "gus" tach's. Hook up is easy, it just taps the signal coming from the dampner. matt

Actually I already have one in mind ( Iguess that would have benn good to mention at the start). What I am thinking is a Mopar Performance tach that is used in pro drag racing, It is about a 4" diameter face. I have wanted one since I was a kid, so at the moment I have a truck with no tach so... ... . Any thoughts?

I used an Isspro 3 3/8" programmable tach and their sensor. :D It has worked great for me. The mopar one may work if it is the right kind.

I have an Isspro 3 3/8" 4k rpm alternator tach. Hardwired to one of the rectifier leads on the back of the alternator. Alt tachs are about the simplest, no sensor or magnets to adjust on the dampner.

Availible anywhere gauges are sold? How about pictures? Do you have any pics of the tach?

I have an Isspro 3 3/8" 4000 rpm gas engine tach on mine. It gets a signal from an inductive prox I mounted in place of the stock sensor. Since mine is a conversion I had no need for the stock damper sensor. It works well. I had a Sunpro 8k before I bought the Isspro 4K. I like the 4K tach because I use more of it. Using this technique I can mount a tach on anything. Might do the Cub Cadet next... ...
