Daily Chuckle...

OK I bumped my damn head today!

I fix the equipment that makes computer chips. It involves vacuum, nasty gasses, R. F. and robots. Work in in the same cleanrooms you see in the Intel commercials. Been doing it for 12 years, before this I was an electrical foreman and technician for beth steel.

In AK I did a year for the Forest Circus in '92(mistake)... ... fishing... ... then some tourism, bus driving... ..... etc... ..... then got real and learned how to build houses and do general carpentry.

In Haines I tree thinned(brutal), then some more carpentry... ..... and then ran a snowmobile tour gig aimed at backcountry skiing and snowboarding, did that for 6 years and bagged it.

Got my 50 Ton Master Coast Gaurd liscense last year but yet to use it... ..... just moved down from AK and mostly a house b*tch right now with house/land/shop/fixit/ chores as far as the eye can see.

Primary job: Environmental Staff Scientist for a nation-wide environmental consulting and engineering firm. About 60 hours a week here.

Secondary job: I own and operate Twin Port Sales, an authorized Amsoil dealer. I do mostly web based sales at www.twinportsales.com and ship right to your door. Nice and easy!

In my spare time, I tackle home improvment projects and do a decent amount of woodworking including casework, framing, tongue-and-groove install, etc. I just remodeled my kitchen, just waiting on the new counter to show up so I can install it. I'm also getting into tile work. Currently I am finishing a playhouse for the kids, just finished the vaulted ceiling in there last weekend. :D

Other hobbies include amateur HAM radio (building my first homemade 2m antenna), guns, and photography.

Control Room Operator at a coal fired power plant. We don't make much power, only 175 Megawatts, but it's very interesting work.

Started out slagging and cleaning the boilers = very hot work.

I didn't grow up hoping I could work in a power plant, I kind of just fell in to it. I do have to say that it has suited me pretty well so far though.

I'm very interested in other power plants too. The only other power plant I've been in, is the hydroelectric plant at Glen Canyon Dam. I would love to tour some other coal powered plants, kind of compare them to ours  .

Jeff

I've worked in 6 different power plants for 4 different companies, mostly Gas Turbines but one wood burner, that was pretty neat, it smelled like Christmas all of the time. I originally thought I was going to be a machinist but ended up in the Navy as a Gas Turbine Technician Electrical and worked with electronics and turbine operations and ended up getting a job right after I got out working in a small gas turbine plant. Things have progressed and I am hoping I am at my final job. If anyone ever wants to see what I do for a living just give a ring and I'll give them a tour. It's definantely a really good job to have hopefully the gas supply last long enough to get me through.
