I think Stanadyne is the recommended additive. Others are Howes, Lucas (which I currently use), Power Service. There are others, just don't come to mind.

Me too since I got it

260,000 miles and no VP problems with power service. I let the fuel guy add it into the storage tank every time he fills it. On the road I add about twice what Power service says just in case. One bottle will treat 375 gallons. Jake

You can get the Powers Service stuff at Wal-mart and TSC, for about $3-$4 per quart. Just don't use it in a Ford or Chevy with glow plugs. You'll be replacing the glow plugs.

What is the power service supposed to do to glow plugs? Dad has had no problems with power service in his 01 Ford. He's used it since new. The glow plugs are one of the most reliable pieces on that truck. Now if you said it took out injectors, high pressure oil pumps, ecm's, cam position sensors, and map sensors along with causing poor milage I would tell him to quit using it. Jake

I use Rotella DFA regularly (can get it at Walmart)... . every so often I put in some MMO, but I read a thread somewhere that it was not good to use MMO all the time.

what additive to run in fuel

I ended up starting with the lucas all I could find near where I live I have 56k on my truck and never used anything. So we will see what it does with what I got done hopefully I made a good choice

Try this!

I threw in a whole quart of Power Service (grey bottle) the other day as I've spent the winter in Mexico and thought the extra additive would clean out the injectors (don't know if they needed it or not).

The engine sounded different... like it was running on honey or something... a real mellow sound. The quart bottle was enough to raise the cetane level 6 points for 50 gallons... . so it was more than required.

That was the first time I've ever "heard" any difference with any additive. I'm guessing the cetane level was over 50 with that much PS. Sure sounded sweet but didn't check mileage to see if that improved.

Synthtic 2 stroke oil

What is everyones opinion on using a 2 stroke oil as a fuel lube. It has to be low in ash so it won't leave oil deposits or carbon build up in the combustion chamber in 2 strokes. It should work the same in a diesel.

What's the popular opinion on additives for those of us who don't put alot of miles on our trucks?

I have 24K on my 01' and am lucky to put 50 miles a month on it.

I will be adding a Transfer Flow 54 gallon OEM replacement tank shortly and am a little concerned with the chance that all that fuel sitting for so long will start to go south on me!

Recommendations?
