Ive test driven an o4 with 72000 on it and its reading 20 mpg on the high way , but then I test drove a new 07 BUT 5. 9 old style cummins and the most I could get it to read was 12 mpg , so then I test drove a 05 that wasnt reading to high either,

The salesman told me it was because the motor wouldnt get top mpg until it "broke in" but the 05 has 32000 on it!! shouldnt that be broke in????

ALL three trucks are identical motors tranis and gears as far as I know and PLS correct me if Im wrong but I dont beileve a 07 with the 5. 9 has any emmissions on it.

Im asking because Im looking to trade in my 01 dually stick for a 5. 9/48re combo one for convience but mostly because there getting allmost 20 mpg high way!!

but if i go buy a new truck that doubles my payments each month AND gets worse mpg Im a dead man!!!

SOME BODY PLS LET ME KNOW SOOOOOOOOONNNNNN!!!!!!

My truck has about 2200 miles on it now and gets 15. 5-16 in 80% city stop and go driving. Haven't been able to run a whole tank on the highway yet.

My brother has an 07 speced the same as mine but he has 7500 miles on his and we just finished a trip that was almost all highway driving at about 75 mph and we averaged 18. 35 mpg.

All numbers are hand calculated.

I've got a 2006 4x4 QC with low miles (about 4200). I'm getting about 16 with winter fuel in combined miles. With summer fuel I was getting a solid 19 and a bit better for all highway at about 65 mph.

thats sounds better... ... ... is it true about the brake in ?? the 07 was only reading 12 mpg at 60 mph flat ground couldnt go for more then a mille though

I expect to do a little better after I get some more miles on the clock. You can't really go by the display--at least for total miles. It's off. The numbers I gave you are hand calculated. The display is too generous. I guess they want you to feel good. If I want to feel good I drive one of my vw jetta tdi.

You need to hand calculate. . but thats difficult in your position... My overhead is consistently 3MPG BELOW what it actually gets. My new 06 5. 9 6 speed 4x2 gets 22 empty hwy, 18-19 city, and 15 LOADED highway pulling large horse trailer. hand calculated!

I have a 07 5. 9 QC 4wd, 6sp w/4000 miles, and I'm getting a average of 21mpg , driving to and from work. Its 80% interstate, 20% city. I ususally drive 60 - 65 miles/hr on the interstate.

The mpg may vary a bunch. Some report 12-14 at first then up to around 16mpg mixed driving. I have yet to go on a one tank trip with out towing something. (I have the vent kit and a 700 mile range). I did a half tank trip and got just over 19 mpg. But was cruising at around 75mph.

My 05 with six speed, gets about 18. 5 on the highway at 65 MPH. It has about 17,000 on the clock. It is not getting significantly different mileage that when it was new. I really don't buy into the theory that your mileage will increase a lot when the engine is broken in. You might see 1 MPG, but thats about it.

Fuel economy.

I just filled up and got 12. 4 hand calculated in town w/my camper. I'm running 285 Toyos and with the GPS are only showing a 2% increase in miles on the odometer over the 265's. I've just installed a Smarty and am running sw#3(major increase in driveability and passing power). I thought the tires would show a larger difference. I'm going out and correcting the odometer and speedo now. Overhead is probably really inaccurate with the Smarty. With the incentives D/C is offering now,I'd hold out for a leftover '07 5. 9.

when I first got mine it was only getting about 10mph but the more I drive it the better it gets. Have 8300 on it now and on the freeway I get 18. 2 mpg and combo freeway/city I get about 14 mpg

If you're just test driving a few miles from dealers lot maybe trip computer RESET was pushed recently so there's no data base for averaging mileage numbers. Numbers as low as what you're calling out sound like that's what's going on. Drive 50+ miles and you'll see 16-18 mpg on the readout. Hand calculate is the only true result. My '07 is right at 3000 mi and with a yard of gravel on board (2600 lb) will be driving from Seattle to LA and back next week. Will do close mileage check and post scale weight, speeds, conditions and mileage.

I have a 07 3500 5. 9 QC 4wd 6-sp with 4600 miles. Low MPG was 15. 2 towing my racecar on an open trailer 80% highway. High was 19. 2 empty 50/50 City/Highway. Have not done any extended highway miles empty. If I keep the RPM's down I get 18-19 If I push 70+ in drops to the 16-17 range.

roper, I Wish mine did that! What your hand caculated is what my overhead shows! I just came home from a RT to Fla (2000 miles) towing just under 11,000 lbs. Its an Titanium 5th wheel which is about the most arodymanic RV out there. 9. 3mph over the whole trip! Of course that is doing 70mph.

If I set the cruse control on 50, on a flat road I could get 22 empty so I guess I just got a heaver foot then you.

I have friends with 06 model 2500 both get 21 and 22 mpg since new and I wouldn't buy one that didn't do that on the test drive. :D :D

I have an 04. 5 QC 2500 4x4 Auto, 3. 73, 78000 miles, running 285/70/17 BFG TA's and 14 in town not towing is normal. The best I've seen on highway is 17. 7 hand calculated taking into account oversize tires. I have seen as low as 12mpg on a trip Memphis to St. Louis on the interstate 75mph with a strong headwind non-towing. It definitely improves when you only drive 65mph though. I miss my 94's 20 mpg!!! My suggestion is get a 6 speed preferably NV5600, I think the overall end ratio is higher than with the g56. The truth is everybody braggs about the great mileage that they are getting with these new trucks, but I have yet to see it. I'm getting ready to chip mine to see if it helps, but so far this truck has been disappointing! Oh, I am a very conservative driver and try to ease into it wherever I go using cruise and it still doesn't help.

so what do you guys think is making such a big differance in the trucks?? there all identical as far as i know and i drive each one the same each time???

is there differance in the computers from year to year??

My last highway trip about 4. 5 hours from south central PA (lots of hills on PA turnpike) to north east Ohio in winter (high 20's) with cruise set to 70, I got 19. 2 and truck has yet to tow or haul. My overhead was saying 18. 4, so I wouldn't trust the overhead. I don't recall if I ULSD or LSD in the tank. I use Stanadyne Performance Formula fuel additive.

Next weekend I'll be breaking the engine in by towing my 5ther to pittsburgh area and back. About 250 miles round trip. I'll post my first time towing milage when I return.

we have 2 running 06 6 speed 4x4 tow vehicle 12-14 towing w/30k now 19-21 hwy, second one 06 auto 7k now 22. 5 hwy 15. 5 pulling 10' enclosed. They get better as the miles get higher. Run synthetic as soon as you can and get the front and rear diff's changed also . It will help a lot ,also amsoils ea air filter is hands down the best we have tried. We are on there ea oil filter and there 15-40 extended run program.
