Just installed gauges and was wondering what numbers I should be seeing for boost? If I nail it from a dead stop I see 19-20, but cruising at 65 - 70 mph I see 0-4 psi. I also see 0-4 psi cruising down the blvd at 40 mph.

No wastegate turnbuckle, should I use one?

Are my # normal?

Could someone post #'s I should expect?

Thanks,

Bocifus

Your #'s seem normal, its a little wierd to have the same boost at 40 as at highway speeds,I had 4-8 psi at 70 mph, there are a lot of variables though,i wouldnt worry about it. As for the turnbuckel,as long as you got the EZ,go ahead and turnbuckle it,it will cool off the EGTS some, you probably wont notice any power gain though. You should hit 27 psi easy after the turnbuckle.

That is exactly what I had until I installed the EZ. The max boost went to 26#, when I blocked off the waste gate it went to 28#, after I went to a straight pipe I get 30#. Also cruising at 70 after the straight pipe the boost went to 6#.

Snowman - thanks for the answers, didn't know what to expect.

Tgbol - I have the EZ and I don't get anything over 20 psi, yet. I do have the turnbuckle to put on asap, as I plan to tow our TT often.

Thanks guys,

If your going to tow a lot, definetely do the turnbuckle. My dad just towed a 24ft enclosed to Fla this week,(about 7K lbs)with his dd2's EZ,and turnbuckle,he couldnt get over 1150 pre turbo WOT on the hills of RT81 at 70-75 mph, in OD. last yr same trip, same mods, but with a spring on the wastegate it got 22psi,stock air fliter,it would run to 1300,now BHAF,and turnbuckle,it runs at 30PSI ,and stays under 1150,that is a big drop,oh yeah he was pulling a smaller trailer last yr,only14 ftx 7 ft wide, and 7ft tall, this one is 8 ft wide, and 8 ft tall.

Bocifus,

When my truck was more stock I got the same numbers you had. I , even now, see 4 - 6 psi boost at 60-65 mph. I am at 7-8 psi at 70 mph. I have seen 30 psi boost on my truck only when I put it on a dyno. I have not been able to get to 30 psi any other way. I am simply not able to load it that hard. I can however get 25 psi if I am passing someone say on a hill and I am pulling my 5th. The max pyro (pre-turbo reading (driving) has been 1150 degrees. If and when I get to that temp I let up an the accelerator, downshift and let it run a bit easier. I don't slow down mind you, just boost the RPMs high enough to keep her cool. I am one of those guys that obeys the CA towing rules, so I only drive 60 mph with my 5th.

Just my 2 cents worth.

boost numbers

ok, I got an EZ and an elbow but what is a turnbuckle? I don't have one. No one ever mentioned it to me before.

Cobra, you do not need a turnbuckle. It is only for the 2001-2002 auto CTd's,that have the HY35/9cm turbo, they have a built in metal line to the wastegate,so you cant use the elbow,so you must turnbuckle the wastgate shut on those trucks.

HUH?

My EGTs stay reletavly normal for what i thought was a stock engine. But i cruse at 70 @ 10-12# and easily hit 26#, and hold it if im loaded. These are numbers closer to somthing with an EZ.

Is it my 5-speed? or the (realy) tight intake valves? K-N filter? Combination of them all?

I have banks gauges -- is mine f'd up?

NOTE: I did install a 20# gauge but burried it so had to go back and get the 40# gauge...

Obert,

Not really sure how you pull 26 psi stock. I understood the limit stock was 21 psi and then the VP44 would defuel you. I had a heck of a time getting to 19 psi when I was fully stock.

I am running a two stage foam filter so I doubt that it is your K&N.

I watched my psi driving home this evening. I got a constant 5 psi at 65 mph and 550 degrees

Obert, your truck was bombed by a previous owner, you must have a boost module or something to clip the boost signal. Does your truck feel to strong for a stocker?do you get any smoke on hard acceleration ,especially of boost. IS your wastegate elbow look untouched,or have any holes in it?

Humph... .

When my truck was stock I disabled the wastegate and saw about 26 psi boost. No module and it didn't defuel.

If it did defuel, it wasn't apparent. Truck still pulled hard.

I bought a module anyways becuase people said it would de-fuel...

don't hardly matter now though :D

now that ya mention it....

I unhooked the wastegate hose one time and put a plug in the hole. It didnt seem to make a difference. I never noticed anything on the linkage, but i never looked for it, either. The actuator could be stuck... . or adjusted... ... ... . The truck was owned by a farm, im the 2nd owner.

I see from 40 to 45 psi on the little HY. Wouldn't know since the guage only goes to 35 but judging by how far past 35 it goes... ... .....

PS. Is this normal. :-laf :-laf
