What oil do you use?

I have been useing shell oil in my trucks since 89 and have never had to add between changes. Now I find that sheel does not meet cj4 specs that my 2007. 5 6. 7l calls for. What kind of oil do you use.

i have been letting the dealer do my oil changes . i haven't had any warranty issus so far but, with some of the issues that people have had with the dpf , i don't want them to be able to say i didn't use low ash oil if i were to have any trouble . i think the dealer oil is valvoline blue from what i understand . i will probably switch to amsoil later on after the dpf issues die out . by the way my dealer charges $68 for a service .

I run the stuff from the dealer I think it's about 12. 00 per gallon and I know it's correct for the 6. 7 and they can not argue if a warranty claim ever comes up

I'm running Chevron Delo 400 15W-40 cj4 oil. I'm currently running this oil in everything I've got from my lawn mower to my dodges to some $200k+ John Deere equipment. No issues. I was runnig CI4+ in my older equipment but to prevent the wrong oil in wrong thing I switched it all to the new stuff.

Same here... 15w-40 Delo 400 CJ4 from Costco for about $55+ for 6 one gallon jugs. I used the same oil (it wasn't the CJ4 however) in my 98. 5 Cummins for over 130,000 miles with no problems.

did any of you see the artical in one of the diesel mags or it may of been in one of the issues of TDR. but anyways, Rotella got the worst review, Valoline Blue got the best review, Amsoil did not do so well either. Once i read that me and my two roommates quite using rotella.

I read in TDR about the comparisons of Amsoil to other oils. . I did some more investigation and became a dealer. . I changed the stock oil at 4k miles and am now at 14k on the Amsoil. . I do use the Amsoil EA oIL fILTERS. 'Extensive testing shows that AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters provide an absolute 98. 7% efficiency rating at 2 microns, plus contaminant and soot removal capabilities of less than one micron. '



I use my 6. 7 for towing a 32 ft 5th wheel no issues. . The Oil is the CJ-4.

Hey, I'm with you Grizzly. I too let my dealer change the oil; however, it isn't free, but almost at $39. 95. I'm not going to mess with oil changes and the hassle of getting rid of the waste oil for that price.

Chevron Delo CJ-4 for my '07. 5. I stocked up on CI-4+ for my other diesels because it is better for them.



I'd worry about extended oil change intervals with any oil because of fuel dilution issues with the 6. 7.

I am picking up my new '08 4500 C&C tomorrow and want to know what the best "non-dealer" oil is out there for my new truck.

The dealer said the truck needs a special oil only the dealer has ... at $7/qt! I was about to tell them to jump in a river, but they may deny ANY warranty work if I use something else they said!



Thats crazy! I figure if I keep all records and receipts of everything I buy and use a top quality synthetic CJ-4 rated oil ... there should be no way they can deny any warranty work ... can they?

The cj Premium Blue came in lower than the ci Premium Blue in the comparison test in the TDR but it is still the Cummins formula I would use that.

The warranty book for my 2008 truck states that the owner must maintain the vehicle according to the instructions provided in the Owner's Manual. It further states that if there is a dispute, you must provide proof that your vehicle was properly serviced.



I'm sure that receipts for supplies would constitute such proof. I keep mine.



I also keep a logbook with the truck. I record all the fuel I buy as well as all the maintenance, accessories added, and any other general notes that I think may be nice to keep track of.



I would imagine that my logbook alone would constitute proof of the required maintenance, but I still keep receipts for oil, filters, etc.

Well, I did pick up a log book and a nice aluminum clipboard box to hold everything in.



I figure if I get the Fleetgaurd Stratapor filters and use one of the Valvoline oils I should be OK. But WHICH Valvoline oil?



What oil came in the truck when I (or we) picked up our new 6. 7L? Was it synthetic or regular?



It seems the oil change intervals on the new 6. 7 will be in the 3K mile range so I would like to just use the Valvoline Premium Blue and save some money over the "Extreme". But ... . if the truck came with synthetic oil, I believe you have to continue using it ... am I correct?????

I did have(can't find it at the moment) where Cummins signed a 5 year contract in 2007 for Valvoline to supply them the Premium Blue CJ-4 oil.



By the way, on that same forum, you said something about needing to continue to use synthetic oil after you start using it. I have never heard this and am skeptical. Where did you hear it?
