I have a 2003 4x4 with rear 11. 50 anti spin differential. In our town can't find amsoil ,does anybody use Mobile 1 Synthetic instead. and who makes the diff oil for Daimler Chrysler. Was quoted $20. 24 per pt.

Thanks

Chuck

Be prepared, lol.

I went with Mobile1 in my diffs and bought enough for my truck, plus my girlfriends truck ... ... ... ... ... had to go to both AutoZones and Advanced Auto in town, plus another AutoZone in the next little town down the road to get enough :-laf

BTW, my LSD still works good ... ... ... ... I was a little leery at first after all the LSD posts.

on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard to do the Diff. oil change

1 for sure. Be sure to get a can of brake cleaner to clean sealing surfaces ... ... ... I also blasted around inside the diff and wiped out what settled in the bottom of the casting.

You'll need some extensions and swivels for the front end, but it's a cake walk.

Be careful when tightning the bolts back down. Some guys have snapped bolts off in the diff when using a torque wrench set at DC's supposed torque value. I personally just snug them up by choking a 3/8 ratchet with no ill results.

Yes DGibbs it's reusable.

I just bought Amsoil Extreme 75W90 for $7-something a quart. I just order 'cause it only takes a day for it to come and UPS shipping isn't that much.

Just changed both of mine last night with Royal Purple 75W90.

Hardest part was lining up the gasket right! LOL

Seriously it's a piece of cake, The front diff's top bolts are a bit of a pain, but I did it with just a ratchet and socket.

There was a previous thread about lifting the truck a bit to make them easier to get at, can't remember the details.

I'm going to be flamed on this one, but I do what my dealer does, and just suck it out. Only takes a few minutes. I know there may be crud in the bottom so maybe not every time. Also, my dealer uses only 75w140. They had too many failure using 75W90.

hand tight using a standard length combo wrench... the 35lbs or what ever the oem spec is is too tight i think... it's always easier to tighten a bolt up if you do get a leak, than getting in there with the drill and ez-outs to remove a broken one...

I put a Mag-Hytec cover on with 8 qts of royal purple 75/90... eliminated a light howl when backing off throttle from freeway speed... I have limited slip 3. 73 axle and it did not affect the function of that.

I used the Castrol Syntec 75w/90 it's a full synthetic gear oil, and has the GL-5 SAE rating. Mobil 1 also has the GL-5 SAE rating also was going to use it at first, but was unable to find it at the time. First change was at 15K for me and will change again in a couple thousand miles. Paid I think $6. 58 qt for the Castrol. Easy to change gear lube, I agree with Ken about a 2 on the scale. :D

$11 a quart and you're changing every 15,000 per the factory recommendation?

No, I'm at 40K right now. I had planned on doing it at 30, but just hadnt got around to it.

I might take the $11 buck fluid back - can get it from a dealer directly cheaper, and I'd prefer to buy in quantity.

ps. Did I read correctly that ezch diff. takes 8 qts?

Amsoil at $5/qt was cheaper than Cenex's oil. I bought it at my local tire shop so maybe he gives me a better deal. I put 7qts. in with the Mag. As mentioned earlier, is seems to eliminate the howl.

Scale of one to 10, with the Mag a 1 would be too high. PML are cheaper and have a drainplug, which is all you need. Fill on top of Mag makes it way too easy. :) :)
