I am currently running Delo5w-40 with a Fleetguard 9028 . The truck is deleted so no regens.
I am amazed how clean the oil stays, after 1K miles of mostly short trips to town , the oil is very light amber.

I do have a long trip to the NE coming up so the 5-40 serves well for the cold starts.

The 9028 has the stacked disc bypass filter built-in so I am in essence running a bypass.

So what's in your sump today.

John

I am using Shell Rotella-T 15W-40 for oil and a Fleetguard LS16035 oil filter. I have used this combination for the last 50K miles with good results and the oil analysis come back with excellent results every time.

What is the oil that comes in the motor from the factory? Is it Shell Rotella T5 or Shell Rotella T6, or is it Mobil One ?

I think I am the only one that runs John Deere plus 50 II 15w-40. I have been using it for over 350,000 combined miles on all my trucks.

Shell Rotella 5W40 synthetic and Shell Rotella 15W40. Usually two oil changes per year with my annual mileage; one about now, one about April. Synthetic in the winter. Fleetguard LF16035 filter.

My choices are based on the articles regarding lube oil and filters in the TDR (never thought about it until I had my first diesel).

I'm running factory oil. When I got it changed (truck came with a "free" oil change), the dealer switches to dino oil. I paid extra to get the actual factory fill (I assume they put it in). I ran Rotella 15/40 in my 2nd gen for the 14 or so years I had it. I only didn't change this time because of the "free" change. On the next one I'll likely switch back to it. I haven't really considered 5/40 or 15/40 on the new truck. In GA it shouldn't ever get cold enough to matter, but the jury is still out so feel free to convince me. I'm weak minded and will likely succumb to peer pressure. :)

AMZ/OIL 15-40 Full Synthetic with Fleetguard Stratapore. It would take AWFULLY cold weather before I would run a thinner oil.

5w40 is the same viscosity at operating temps as 15w40. 5w40 is also recommended below 0*F (for those of us that have to worry about it :{)

Speaking of thinner oil, 40w appears to be on borrowed time. A handful of HD truck engines are FF with 30w oil and its a matter of time before the 6.7 will be as well.

Mine came deleted from the factory and the oil is black after one block following an oil change.

Cool factor of 10 using John Deere oil in your Ram, because " nothing runs like a Deere..."
Here is a -23C cold start video of JD in Canada , I wonder what oil he has in the Deere ?

Wish I could say I started using it for the cool factor of Nothing running like a Deere, but the long of it was one of my employee's Dad was a parts manager at a John Deere dealership and he sold me a 55gal drum so cheap I couldn't make myself not using it. Then after about 80,000 miles of using it on one truck I had to replace injectors and the top end was clean enough to eat off. Before this I was using Rotella and it started going up in price and I was tired of the smell it gave off the first 1000 miles after an oil change. With the fleet I own and my tractors it makes sense for me to buy the oil in the 55gal drums and the price is still pretty good.
