What oil to use

I know this subject has been around for awhile now, but what oil is everyone using now? My rig is up for a oil change and all I can find in the stores is CJ-4 oils. Do I grin and bear it and just change the oil more frequently? Or change to a good synthetic?

I realize the oil has been changed but I have my doubts about the oil being the cause of the oil turning black so fast in the newer trucks. If the soot was always there before, where did it go between oil changes? I think the dirty oil is caused by the multiple event injection on the newer trucks and also maybe a different cam profile. I don't know if synthetics will keep the oil clean longer or not. I do believe that some good, extra filtration would help. bg

I can still find CI-4 at my local Napa. Albeit Citguard 600. Otherwise... just use the CJ-4 and you'll be fine. Change at 10,000 max. I'd do 5000 or 7500 personally. From what I've read in TDR... the CI-4's are better for pre 07's. But eventually and soon, you won't be able to get it. Save yourself hassle looking for CI-4.

I just got another UOA of CJ-4 Rotella... its holding up as good as any out there... this one was at 6600 miles...

I would not sweat CJ-4... pick what oil you want to run, and run it.
