OK, I am going to do it! After many hours (well, years actually... ) debating and toying with the idea, I have decided to installed the rebuilt and beefed Getrag 360 that was originally going into the crew until I decided to (read convinced ;)) to go with a 5600.

So, what parts do I need? I will be at a yard on Wednesday getting parts, so I am making a list of what I need. I already have a transmission and bellhousing; shifter and boots...

I guess I need:

Np205 from a stick truck

New clutch and throw out bearing

Re-surface my flywheel

Pedals

Clutch hydraulic system

Anything else?

Do I need any springs or throttle cable things???

Thanks!

Robert

Well if you're going from a 727, you won't have a flywheel to be resurfaced, unless you're talking that you have one sitting around already.

You need the 29 spline coupler, or "power sleeve" as you may see it refered to (not to be confused for a transfer case adapter). The Getrag has a male output and the NP205 has a male input. The coupler runs about $90 new. Might be cheaper used, but I don't think I've ever seen a used one... unless you have a donor truck at your disposal.

There is a transfer case adapter that you need... but most likely will be on the transfer case when you get it. This gets a little hairy if you don't know what to look for. There are a bunch of cast pieces down under there to get you from the transmission to the transfer case. Starting from transmission, you have this: transmission, trans tail adapter, transfer case adapter, transfer case. ALOT of people mistake the transmission tail adapter for the transfer case adapter when you ask them for either one. Your transmission will most likely have the tail adapter on it. The transfer case will most likely have the transfer case adapter on it, also. Some people refer to this as the "transfer case bellhousing. " Make sure you have all these pieces. I'll try to find pics of each if you need them.

I think the transmission mount will need to be moved, but I'd imagine the frame would have holes where it needs to go already. Driveshafts will have to be modified, also.

I believe from there on out, you're home free.

PM me if you need any parts, I have a lot of items needed for the swap minus the getrag itself and the master/slave assy, xfer case and bellousing, and don't have plans to use any of the parts anymore. I decided to go with the 727 for my Crew.

Pepecat - I really appreciate the offer. I may just take you up on that as I get rolling into this. I already noticed last night that I have a gear shift lever on the steering columb to remove. Might need a cover depending on what is left on the donar truck in the salvage yard.

Also, I see you have a getrag 3. 07 truck. Just curious, how does it tow with the high gears and what is the top end? ;) Also, whats RPM at lets say 75 MPH?

Tippy Freckle Horse :D - Coupler. Yes. WIll look into that. I do know the one you are reffering to. I remember it on the crew cab when I swapped the 205 onto the NV5600. Ditto on all of the couplers. Will double check to ensure it is there.

As for flywheel, I have one left over from the original Getrag that was in the Crew cab.

transmission mount. Have been toying with what will have to be done there as well.

What abvout trans tunnel? I dont gather I will have any issues but always better to ask! ;)

Just thinking further. The 727 T case cant be used with a stick as the splines are different, right?

Why could the power sleeve not be custom made to have 29 spline on one side and the 727 spline count on the other? Am I following there or are there other issues that I am not seeing there?

Can you resurface the flywheel? The one in my '89 has a raised ridge around the circumference to register the pressure plate. A shop told me they couldn't redo one with this lip. Is the newer flywheel different? Curious... .
I just hit mine with a DA sander with 120 grit to break the glaze when I put in a new disc.
Good luck with your conversion!

I just posed this question in the Ramcharger Central diesel section. I had called Advanced Adapters about 2 years ago to see if they could make a 23-29 spline coupler, seeings as they do make one for some chevy 10-32 spline swap application, but the guy told me that the cost of a one off would be astrinomical. I've probably had this conversation about the auto to stick t-case conversion 3 times a month since then. People are doing it, and those 29 spline cases aren't getting any more common. I threw up the thought of possibly getting a goup buy together for custom couplers on the RCC forum, but there was no response, so I just let it go...
