what happens when an idiot like one of our dealership employees puts GAS in a cummins?



is there any permenant damage?

the truck did shut down on side of road. .

Shortened the life of the VP44, The owner has just been stiffed with a premature inj pump failure.



There have been a few occurances of gas in the diesel tank. Most have had no immediate failures after proper flushing of fuel system and filter replacement, long term ??????????

well of course no one wants to fess up to who did it.

probably because he/she will look an idiot...



why i asked: cause my boss at the dealership said he would make me a sweet deal cause of what happened and the original owner-to-be wants no part of it, the upside is that i could possibly get a HO/6-speed sport model for the same as a regular/5-spd, it like a HO for free... .



but my 6th sense says no... .

wrong fuel damage

I don't know how similar the VP44 mechanicals are to the 1st generation pump, but my 1989 Dodge was fueled with approximately 50% gasolene and then driven over 250 miles. Later in life ir got filled with about 75% gas and driven around 15 miles. I've since sold the truck, but it is still running on the original pump and has over 225,000 miles now. It runs fine.



Bottom line is, I would cry a little ( okay, a lot! ) to get the best deal I could and buy this truck. Remember, the VP44 is covered on the engine warranty.

thats right, i forgot that it IS included in the 5yr/100,000 warranty



that makes the decision very hard,

I am going to tell him that it all comes donw to the $$$$$$$$$

I would just figure in the price of a new VP44 installed and then deal from that point. If you never have to replace it your now way ahead of the game

westtn. The older pumps were not lubricated by fuel so it wouldnt cause the lack of lubrication damage that we all fear.

If it is an HO motor, then it would have the VP44 injection pump which is lubricated with diesel.

Depends On How Much Gasoline !

A Buddy put 27. 5 gals of Gasoline in his truck and it quit almost instantly. Everything was drained, new filters, etc and it was fine. I think if just 5-10 gals was put in and the engine would keep running, it wouldn't do it any good.

I would not hesitate to buy this truck, chances that the pump is ruined are very slim to none. Do we all know what we are really buying when we are filling up our diesels??? Get the best price you can and go for it!!!! Good luck !!!!
