what power source did everyone use for there isspro egt gauges, to power the exhaust temp and drive circuit?

thank you

Robert.

If I remember right, check with NavyDood for info on this. He posted very good info regarding installation of his gauges. I used the 12v outlet power supply on my 2nd gen. I will be installing the same gauges as you on my 05, so I will be searching for NavyDood's posts :) Hope this gets you going, Merry Christmas :D

Here's a couple pic's of where I tapped into the cigarette lighter power wire and ran it to a fuse block that I mounted behind the lower cover/knee panel on my '04. 5

RobertP, most sensors for exhaust gas are actually thermocouples that need no external power source. They rely mostly on a small current generated by two dissimilar metals (at least theat's the way aircraft accomplish this). The guage should be powered by the same circuit that supplies you dash guages. Each guage set up should come with instructions regarding installation. Thermocouple wires can be broken if handled to vigorously, although they can withstand lots of vibration. That's one of the reasons they use them on Turbine engines; you can get aircraft sytle guages from Aircraft spruce and speciality. They may cut you a deal if it not going to be used in a certificated aircraft. A lot of the price is for the insurance that goes as a repair to an airplane.

The EGT gage requires no power source, except for illumination.

For illumination, if you pop off the dash panel by the headlight switch you can easily tap into the wire that powers the instrument lights. They dim with the instrument lights too.

thank you all for fast responses. so if im reading right i may not need to attach the power and negetive to the little box, just connect the lights and it should work.

I connected my box for my EGT gauge for the simple fact that if it didnt need it, it wouldnt have came with it. So to power the box I wired into the pink power wire coming from the back of the cigarette lighter. And for illumination, I tapped into the orange wire with a brown tracer. Be careful though and use a test light. I had two orange wires with brown tracers... one was for my dome light, the other was for my dimmer switch, so just use a test light and use the roll siwtch to dim the dash lights and see if you test light dims with them, if it does use a T splice and your done. Feel free to PM me with further questions. Oh, and I also used 2 strips of 3M double sided stick tape to mount the box, way up under the dash. The stuff is very strong and should have no problems holding the box up in there. Just prevents you from having to drill holes in your $40,000 truck. ;)
