What R the signs of a bad injector(s)?

I have read alot of post about getting new injectors and injectors going bad. But how can you really tell if an injector is bad? What is a sure sign? And how can you clean them? The dealer told me that if a injector was bad that the oil would smell strongly of fuel. I'm getting ready to change my filter and someone suggested putting injector cleaner in the cannister b4 I prime to clean the injectors. Any advice anyone?

Welcome to TDR. Typically with injector problems you will also notice your oil level above the full line. Also, I read this somewhere to test if there is fuel in the oil, take a paper towel and drop a drip of oil off the dip stick onto it. If you see a light colored ring with a darker center then you have fuel in your oil. I know from experience that sometimes carbon build-up can cause rough idle also.

Welcome to the TDR. I would say that if you have a rising oil level, you have more than just injector problems , you have an emergency!! Much more common, thankfully, is the carboned-up tips largely from not working the engine hard enough. It manifests itself by as mentioned, a rough idle, and also common is a hard knock just off idle when engine is warm. Try the Valvoline Injector cleaner... Geno's sells it. Dump the whole enchilada in an empty tank and fill 'er up and run 'er hard.

It is ok to put some in the canister but it will burn through that so fast it will not do much good. Put it in the tank, that way it mixes well and the treated fuel will set in the injectors at rest (engine off).



Valvoline makes some good stuff, I believe one quart mixes with 250g of fuel. I would do what a previous person said and dump the whole quart in a full tank of fuel, and then work it!

You can also have injector problems that simply bleed fuel back to the tank and cause low rail pressure and high egt's, all the while giving no rough idle or fuel in the oil symptoms. To find the individual "bad injector" is a PITA.

Oo. Oo. I think I may just put in new injectors if this flush doesn't help with the hesitation and sluggish power. Any after market injectors that would be a good replacement for the factory ones?

You know I once used diesel kleen after I started having the problem with hesitation, I also changed the fuel filter and air as well. I then went on a road trip to corpus christi and the truck ran like a sports car for about 500 miles and then began hesitating again. But also I have never wiped out the cannister, so I will be sure to do that this go around. Is there a difference in how the mopar fuel filter work as opposed to an aftermarket from STP or Fram?
