The last couple of x-cab 97 & 98 trucks I`ve gone to look over at the "dealer" ships around here have been Canadian model trucks. At least I think they were. They had celsius temp gauges & God knows what the oil pressure marks were- Bars maybe? Anyway, are there any significant issues or problems that would make buying one a no-no? One truck was way clean, and the other was ratty. I don`t think they had the same owner, as in fleet type situation. Any thoughts , or opinion welcome. My truck is tight and in good overall shape, but it needs a rear seat. DK.

You may try running a search for Canadian in the search area. There has been alot of discussion aobut the issues with north of the border rigs... ... ... . Sarge

My 99 was a Canadian truck and the only problem I saw with it was the silver two tone paint was coming off and it was developing surface rust pretty good in a couple spots I figure from more salt on roadways. To eliminate the metric gauges just have the dealer install a new instrument cluster in the truck and it should work perfectly fine. If I remember right it was supposed to have already been done when the truck crossed the border but I may be wrong. The instrument cluster is like $600 so it is not cheap but should be done for you by the dealer I would think. Hope this helps Dan

Before i got my 02, I had a 01 sport that was from Canada and i had many problems. To begin with, it had daytime running lights (like Chevy's) and it burnt the bulbs out quick and the headlight switch too ( two in 40,000 miles). Then it had a problem with the transfer pump(fixed under warranty) and then another transfer pump(fixed under warranty). Then had another problem with the fuel system and the dealer brought a specialist in from Cummins in Columbus to figure it out. Then ended up replacing everything from the tank to the injectors (2,600 bucks all under warranty). I don't suggest any one buy one from Canada unless researched up and down. An easy way to tell that it is from Canada is to look on the inside drivers door jam and on the sticker it will have a maple leave. This is just my . 02 but it was all true and very aggravating, Corey by the way i bought that truck from Peterson Stampede in Nampa.

Cory, I saw one of these at Edmark Chevrolet in Nampa..... Blue 96 x-cab w/driftwood trim. It sold in about 3 days. There is one at Meridian Ford right now. It is a 97 x-cab... Silver . Both were autos. The 97 was pretty filthy interior wise, but a very nice body. It drove ok, but trans was sorta soft. Both st@#$%^& wanted to give me 6k for my truck on trade. 9K difference for a back seat & 30K less miles? Truck was stock, none of the xtra`s my truck has. F567 them! I`l find a nice q-cab or x-cab w/ goodies & buy it for less. Anybody got one? DK.

CoreyCunningham, I thought I read somewhere you couldn't get warranty service south of that border for a canadian truck?

DKayser, you might make sure you can get warranty repairs of you by a newer Canadian truck. Hope your search goes well.

CDN Trucks have DRL's ( daytime running lights ). They have been around since the mid 90's and they do save lives! I have never had any problem with them burning out prematurely or hear anyone have this problem. Fuel system problems have nothing to do with where the truck was sold. They are all built in the same place. (Mine was built in Mexico). It would be impossible to tell how the truck was treated or what the previous owner has put into the tank, no matter where the truck is from. As far as gauges. 200-F is 93-C. If the $ 600. 00 or so dollars is too expensive then take some model paint and put a little red dot at where the high side or your optimum temp. should be. PSI is how we read oil pressure up here so i wouldn't be alarmed. And as far as speed goes, there is MPH as well as KPH on the clock. The reason for all the CDN trucks down your way. Dealers would come to CDN auction houses and buy as many low mile diesels as they could. Some of your dealerships had arranged to have so many units a month sold to U. S. dealerships and wholesalers. It was the Exchange and the stong economy they fueled this mass purchasing and why you were seeing so many CDN trucks down your way. I wouldn't be alarmed about purchasing a truck from north of the 49th. Just go about it as you would with anyother vehicle, Just keep an eye out for the rust !!!!

I had bought the truck with the extended warranty and that really did save me. I am not sure if the factory warranty goes across the border with the truck or not.
