My Excuse Finally Showed-Up

Van Aaken in motorhome ??

I plan on getting the plastic (PTFE?) disk to go between the plates, but I'm wondering what I should use for the pin itself??? Should I use anti-sieze, automotive grade grease, or what? I would like it to stay relatively "clean" (don't want something that will drip/stick on everything).

What do you use, and why? Thanks!

It might not be right, but I have never put anything on it.

I'm using...

silicone spray on the pin. Works well in reducing the noise during tight turns etc. w/o the mess of grease.

No 5th wheel, but use StarBrite Teflon Trailer Hitch Lubricant, on the gooseneck and bumper pull connections.

According to the manufacturer "... will not wash away, oxidize, or breakdown under high heat. It gives unexcelled lubricity, corrosion protection, temperature stability , and adhesion. ... "

-65* to +550* temperature range

Will not oxidize, breakdown, or turn rancid

Non- toxic

Isn't TEFLON great!!!!!!!?!!!!!!!!

I was thinking about this and realized I do use something on mine.

I have Amsoil HD metal protectent that I use on the slide out moving parts, and I do recall spraying some on the hitch parts to stop rusting when not in use.

Thanks for the replys. Ended-up using plain, #2 (wheel bearing) grease. Worked-out fine (no signs of galling, paint still intact), but I will have to watch for dirt/dust collection after sitting exposed to the elements.

I use Slick 50 grease or LE grease.

Very, very light coat on the vert pin. A teflon disk on the plate. If trailer has been sitting, a paper towel will remove the residual grease on the pin and a quick wipe of the hitch jaws, then an another little dab L do ya.
