Someone check me on this, but I've read the Cummins spec and it's 6 and 15 thou (min. acceptable). I usually go with about 8 and 16. It a bit quiter and in theory at least, you pick up some performance.

I do check once a year or 25k miles. Set the exhaust too tight and you'll burn a valve.

Added in edit; the above is not to contradict 10 and 20. That is the spec on the CPL plate and the Dodge spec. I listed what Cummins shows as the miminum acceptable spec for 5. 9's.

I have done mine at 9 and 19 for the last couple years. Seems to have picked up a little pep, and lowered cooldown time a little. The difference isnt earth shattering, but still noticeable if one has gauges.

I will confer, though, book recommends 10 and 20.

Thats pushing it at a cold setting. Hot minimum maybe?

!0 and 20 is what the 5. 9 manual and the FSM I have says. I usually go 9and 19 also.

I've been doing . 08/. 18 as per Pastor Bob. I don't know about cooldown, the new 91. 5 auto takes FOREVER too cool to 300*. I'm thinkin junk Autometer z-series gauge, since it never reads zero, it will bottom out at ~75* engine cold, outside temps 50*... hmm maybe this winter it will go to zero:confused:.

The gauge is approximately 25 degrees off, and you call it junk

Seems more like a safety feature to me.

Yep I do call it junk, as with a few other Autometer z-series gauges I've yanked out and installed el cheapo replacements- water temp and oil pressure. Maybe it's just me.

If you notice, I started to think for a second that DUH, it's reading ~75* because thats about what the temp is!! And since it was 98* 12 hours earlier when I parked the truck it might still be reading warm... so maybe this Autometer gauge is a good one;). The crew cab will receive all Isspro, though.

that's what I was thinking. I think he left out a zero. Though my two TX trucks were at about . 017 and . 027 (. 025 had some wiggle room).
