Im going to be purchasing a drop hitch today, I have a 4x4 2018 2500 leveled on 35’s, is a 8” weigh-safe enough or do I get the 10” version?

8" is perfect for 98% of the time unless you had a small utility or fishin boat that you wanted level. I have a 10":D, leveled on stock rubber and that is what I found.

Why not just measure it and get what you need.

Not all trailer tongues will necessarily be the same height. Several different suspensions on trailers as well. I have 1 trailer with torsion axles, another with leaves over slung, 1 underslung, 1 flatbed underslung but on thicker frame, etc. I got the 10" to accommodate all those variables. I don't use the very lowest setting often, but is there when needed. Son's truck has got a 6" lift and definitely uses it. The weigh safes are not cheap hitches, therefore, really only want to buy once. Days of old, I probably have 4 or 5 different hitches for the 2" receivers at probably 30bucks/maybe more a pop. Shin knockers those were.

I have a 9" B&W that I use on my stock height truck. Love the hitch but it is just a little too long at times in the drop position and I end up dragging it on the ground on a rough road.

That’s why I went with the 7” version.

I’ve never needed more than a 6” drop on my previous truck and the hitch on this truck is about the same height.

If you go to a decent trailer place talk to them about what kind of trailer you are most likely to pull. They should be able to point you to them in the yard and try it out. I try to go on off hours when I do stuff like that so they have a few minutes to discuss.

15 min tops you should be out the door with a decent set up for general use.

What I was finding the really really low stuff will be 1-7/8" ball anyway and alot of the 2.5" Class V stuff I was looking at was 2" one side and 2-5/16" on the other side, so that really short stuff wont apply.

My stock reciever on the hitch was 21" to the bottom of the 2-1/2" slot, so you can try to use that as a reference and see where you are at with the 35's.

Thank you guys for the responses, I’m tempted to just order a B&W tow n stow 7” drop hitch in black.

I found a “used” one on Amazon last week. It was 10% off and only had been opened, never installed.

I didn’t need it yet, but for 10% off and being new I ordered it.

They had more in the same condition if you’re interested.
