Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) RV275 injector with BOOST?

Hi All- Okay, here we go. 98. 5 quadcab, 4x4, Gail Banks setup. Complete gauges. Transmission rebuilt due to the extra HP from Gail, no problem, I expected it.

Looking to up grade the injectors. Nothing wrong with the ones I have except I have heard I can make some more power if I can get more fuel into the engine. I have the Gail Banks black box that limits EGTs and MAP so I can monitor the system as well.

I pull a 27 foot toyhauler and would like to get more performance out of the truck. It is good now, but would like to see what I can get. It is not my only vehicle but... I would like to keep it streetable and be able to enjoy it without towing a trailer behind it.

Any ideas on size and make of new injectors?

Thanks!

Ken

You will have a lot of people tell you to go with the rv 275 horse injectors. I have been running them for the last 150k miles. They will give a small boost in milage and about a 40 horse power gain. Randy

See my signature.

I wanted to stay as stock as I could, but still have a bit of street-able performance.

I just love the combination that I have. RV-275s with the Van-Acken timing box with the boost elbow blocked off.

Never been on a dyno, just know that the seat of the pants tells me it is way better than it was when I bought it.

Yep, RV275s are the way to go for bang for the buck, next step up is edge stage 1 50 horse for a little more push and avg 1 mpg more either way its a good move

I have almost the same set up, ( minus the Banks + AT ) with a 30ft toy hauler. There sure seems to be a lot of choices and opinions. One guy says he likes the Mach 1. 6 injectors over the rv275. I'd like as much HP as possible with out pooring smoke. I,ve also heard the rv300 is a good choice. Quality injectors I've heard help both with power and keeping the smoke down.

not that I care for anything Banks makes. but its Gale not Gail. unless he has a wife with that name. :-laf. injectors IMO you get what you paid for. I would look for a injector that has a good quality history, matched processing, a honed tip. I know mine are bigger than what you want but I have always been happy with Mach injectors. they have some that will be smoother cooler temp wise and have better MPG than many others out there. buy once you get what you pay for.

your smoke problem will only be addressed by adding more AIR!! the smoke is raw fuel that did notfire due to not enough air volume for the amount of fuel being introduced to the compressed air charge (simplified, but you get the idea) the higher quality (priced) injectors are usually machined and honed to higher tolerances, as well as built with more holes in the nozzle for better atomization, for cleaner, more compleat burn, thats why you get less smoke, more power, better mileage. next step, more air. hang a bigger whistle on it!!!!

Yup, more fuel is going to need more air to compensate. I was under aired with 80hp injectors for 7 years.

Now I am up a bit, can still smoke pretty good if I want, and still pull 4% opacity for emissions.

If you do a lot of towing, you need to look into a bigger turbo along with injectors. I'd even go as far to recommend a water/methanol injection kit as well.

Ken,

I may be reading you wrong but you said you wanted more to power to play... . not necessarily to tow. You're not going to be satisfied by going with small injectors once you see what these trucks are capable of. I tow a 40' toyhauler and have power to spare and still see 11mpg if I keep my foot under control. 19mpg unloaded... . used to be 22mpg before mods! You will install 40hp nozzles and then add a turbo and then go bigger nozzles and then a bigger turbo..... and finally, you add Mach 4's and a huge turbo and finnd that you can't tow while keeping egt's under control! Lot's of fun pulling up next to the unsuspecting Mustang and literally blowing the teens away!!!

My point is..... figure out what you want to do first... . how much power do you want to PLAY with. Do everything once and be satisfied. Look at other members sig's who have reached a certain level of power that YOU are interested in... ... ask them how it tow's and how the egt's are and then duplicate that setup. I spent way too much money on 3 different turbos and injectors before finally resting on the setup I currently have. Nobody on here will argue that twins offers up a huge advantage as to be the best of both worlds... ... Cost is the only factor that will steer you around them. Mine were very expensive but the confidence inspiring ability to climb any grade towing my 5th wheel and keep egt's at or below 1000* is very comforting.

My truck has never been dynod but I suspect it to be in the 450rwhp mark. I do not use any boxes other than a Smarty... . just for adding a bit of extra timing. I tow a 6k trailer utility trailer daily and avg 13mpg on a monthly basis and my truck doesn't even know it is there.

Do want you want the 1st time and spend the money once!! Your choice!

I just ordered a set of rv275 for $350 and no core charge. ( 40 hp ). Maybe I'll increase the boost a little after I find out the best way to do it. I read that the boost elbo can be replaced with an adjustable one and a boost fooler is needed.

Maybe some day I can afford a setup like AClayton. Sounds like a lot of fun.

PS. The Mach 1's, 50 hp are $600 and the Mach 1. 6's, 90 hp are $700 plus $200 core charge at Diesel Dawgs Performance which is where I found the rv275's.
