I'm probably going to go with the Alpine CDA9847 head unit, fair amount of options, attractive and cheap!:D

What speakers, amp(s), and sub?

I'm also trying to keep the cost as low as possible, yet attain decent sound quality. I want to stick with one 10" under the seat, I'm not going to do rear door speakers, only the fronts and would prefer components.

Fire some opinions out there.

I would really do front and back doors... .

Personally, I like Eclipse head unit and speakers and amp... . for a sub, I would go with JL Audio... . not cheap, but good stuff.....

Having said that, I have Infinety Reference series speakers and an inexpensive Panasonic head unit all run by a 360 watt amp... already had my sub box (2 JL 6" subs)... this system rocks pretty good, and would run about $1200.....

if you want somthing cheap and works, go with sony amps and 10" sub(I have 2 10" sony subs, works for me right now), then do a conversion to 6. 5" in the front and back and go with eclipse or JL, which ever componet speakers are cheaper as of now. They are about the same quality. I would agree with what Carlsummers said about the Eclipse head unit, and JL sub and amp, if price wasn't an issue.

Not the most musically correct with rear speakers and I'll have rear bass fill.

I like JL's, that is the sub I've always had.

Just trying to keep my stereo/truck toys balance in check;)

Eclipse cd5425 deck with focal 165 ca speakers in the front and rear sound really good, for less than 1,000. Trying to decide what to do for sub box (JL in center seat?) as well as amp for both front and rear speakers as well as for the sub. Something that really helped the sound of the system was the use of dynamat on the back of the cab(inside) really noticed a difference in that the stereo didn't have to be turned up as load to hear over my exh. (4" straight pipe) When I go to complete the system with the amp and sub box i plan on using some of Noise Nazi techniques and take up the entire interior and put down some dynamat. If you can get to a car toys and check out the Eclipse and Focal stuff it really rocks. Use to go with Alpine but I think Eclipse and Focal are just a little better.

I'm waiting for Pac-audio to get their act together and offer up their steering wheel interface control for Alpine stereos http://www.pac-audio.com/products/swi.htm

I've been calling and asking now for over 3 months and I get the same answer every time, "it'll ship next week. "

My plan is to get an Alpine 9851 with KCA-420 iPod controller

And interface the PAC-Audio SWI-ALP so, that I don't loose my steering wheel controls.

Then upgrade the stock speakers.

Chris

Why not replace the rear door speakers with low profile 8" woofers? :) Sure, it would take some trimming and I'd lose all mid range but it's the back seat. And I could add the little spot tweeters in the upper corners of the back glass and have a darn good surround sound. Oo.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but how in the world are you guys getting a pair of 10's in the back... . my pair of 6's just do fit, and I had to remove that fancy fold out floor thing..... besides, how you gonna pull that much air under the seat... . just wondering..... btw: if the wattage is split up correctly, and the entire system is tuned properly, rears are very correct..... jmho.....

Anybody know what size speakers fit in the front door? 6. 5" or 5. 25"?

Neither. In DCX's infinite wisdom, they put a 6x9 behind the 6. 5 outlet. Go figure. The rears are 5. 25's though.

As far as the musically correct, if you do a crossover where say 15 - 20 watts go back, then it provides rear fill, which is ok. But, how many concerts have you been to where they sing behind you?

It takes getting used to, but I like the front speakers with rear sub fill better.

In my old truck (99 3500) I had an Eclipse HU with Diamond Audio Hex speakers. I was configured with a 6 ½ & 1” soft dome in the door and a 1” soft doom in the A pillar with a 5 ¼ rear fill and Xtant amp which sounded really good. In my new truck I am running a Eclipse AV8533 with Dynaudio MW-170 (8”) in the front doors, a MD-100 in the A pillar (not factory dash location), a MW-150 rear fill and a Diamond Audio D5 600. 4 & Audio Control EQS. I am still trying to figure out what to do for a sub.

How do you like the Diamond pieces?

Big Sur,

I believe they make a basket that will fit, I think Cartoys carries them if you have one locally. I also believe the hole to be round.

I got a box from an audio store that fit the 10"s. Like you said, the metal foldouts are gone.
