Ok, got the smarty in the mail today, and had it installing about 5 min later. This thing is absolutely silly easy to use. Thanks Marco and Bob. I decided to try #9 first just too see what the big gun felt like. Very impressive. But I do not wish to give up the drag comp, so i put #8 in to see how everything worked together. First off, without the comp box on, I think my truck actually ran better with #8 than #9. Not sure why that is, but man I was seriously impressed. I love the fact that the rev limiter is moved up, as i normally drive with my comp box off, and therefor am always hitting the factory rev limiter. I can tell you driving with the box off is so much more fun now. Now for the true test, smarty#8 with comp box on 5x5. Wow is all i can say. The truck comes up on boost so much faster, it is really nice. Before, you would stab it and there would be a pause, then the boost would get up and the comp would kick in. Now, the power is much more linear. The throttle is very sensitive, almost too sensitive. Even with the comp box off, the bottom end is strong enough to get you in trouble quick on a slick road. Anyway, i put #6 in to tame the peddle a little bit and I think that is where im going to leave it for now. So far I am extemely pleased and wish i would have bought it a long time ago. Thanks again bob, for the fast shipping and the great product.

Anyway, back to the title of the thread, what catcher software are you guys running?

9-daily driving

3-towing

1-highway cruising (no trailer)

0-when I lend the truck to my girlfriend!!

The timing works well with my fueling box.

Smarty really helps spool the larger single turbos. Few guys around here are useing them in sled pulling trucks.

On 8 with Edge Drag

On 9 with TST

So far I have used #5 ((W0W) seems to give me enough of what I am looking for. Have not had much time to play it. Maybe this weekend I'll bump it up to #9 for sh. . s and giggles :-laf

3 for towing. I have a large (slow spooling) turbo. Works good.

Bob Weis

You think that thing is slow, you should try the full size B1. LOL actually, I really like the turbo when playing empty, it just stinks for towing.

Opoole, any idea why the truck feels stronger on 8 than 9?? obviously this is only a SOP observation, no dyno to back it up. It almost felt like with the added timing it was dumping too much fuel, as it would make a huge smoke cloud and then all of a sudden would clear and take off like a rocket. On 8 it just seems to pull smooth right from the start. Oh well, I guess thats why they put all that software in there. :-laf

I ran mine on #5 for about 10 miles to see what it was like. I put it on #3 and plan on leaving it there until I pay off the truck, so I can afford the new clutch.

always on 9 here cept for the other day I'd try 5 to see if i got better MPG but it wasnt so its back to 9 , mayb ill try 8 like some of u guys never have used that one b4

I bought mine around June I believe. Set it to #9 and haven't touched it since. Daily driving, towing, etc. Even at WOT with an 8k trailer I can't get higher than ~1200* @ ~28psi boost.

After some initial playing around with various SW#'s (all while TST was off), I settled on #9

Then I turned TST on and do not want to go any higher than #5 until I get a bigger turbo. With SW#9/TST#5, I can bury the pyro pretty easily and pull 37# of boost.

I am not even going to play with cranking up the TST more until I get a turbo.

The TST I have is a PowerMax1, 60hp. I may install it this weekend. Worst case I can turn it off while towing.

I run mine on #8 all the time and thats where it stays. Just didn't sound right on #9.

Ran mine on 6 and 8 for a bit. Engine noise was much quieter. You notice any mileage increase over stock?

#8 is my favorite

#3 for towing

Every once in a while I'll run #9, but it's too smokey for my tastes. There's somthing about the sound or feel of advanced timing that grates me, so #8 is my ticket. The full CaTCHER software makes for a sensitive throttle. I notice it more on let-off than acceleration, maybe it's a manual transmission thing.

Sometimes I miss the Comp for its higher top end horsepower. The way I see it, the Comp is a 10% solution whereas the Smarty is 90% solution for my daily driving needs

Ran mine on 8 at first with the Comp to "fine tune" power to fit conditions. Then needed to replace my VP-44, and after installing the new VP, decided to go easy on it until parts had time to seat in - so am running the Smarty on 2, using the Comp in EZ mode (pump wire was tapped before it ever saw the truck - but EZ mode is fine for now!), and still adjusting power with what the Comp provides in EZ mode - usually the Comp is on 1x1, but occasionally go higher when towing in the hills.

I rarely see the need for more power than what the above provides - but the total power and flexibility of the Smarty on #8 and then tuning across the settings with the Comp and pump wire attached is really something that has to be experienced to be fully appreciated! With the Smarty on #8 and the Comp anywhere above 3x3, I can break the rear wheels loose accelerating up the blacktop grade to our house in 4th gear! :D

YES. I agree with this 100%. I think if i had an auto i would leave it on the more sensitive throttle setting.

I ran it on 8 when I first got it and have now learned to like 2 or 4. With the way my truck rides(traction bars) and with my fueling mods, there are a couple of sections of road locally that I can't even drive on in the higher two settings. This is not an exaggeration either, it's either jerk the truck in half or idle down the road. One thing I have noticed is my truck is a dog with the Comp Box(no wire tap) out of commission. I wish the Smarty pulled like the Comp box on the top end and then I could just get rid of the Comp altogether.
