What the is the deal w/'600' turbo?

I've owned a 555, and a 600. Same boxes, same settings 555 kicks *****. Has to be the turbo. Pressure box + 5/5 on TST has dramatically different effects on each engine. Has to be the turbo? Seems like no matter how low I 'bogged' the engine on the 555, turbo spooled rapidly and the truck launched--in lock up, or any other scenario. My 600, whole different story, no matter what combination of fueling (bddl (crazy larry and normal) stacked w/TST and pressure), it just has turbo lag from HELL!!!!! Hit it at 50 MPH and your not going anywhere. My 555, on the other hand, the whole truck would shake and launch!



The turbo on the 600 doesn't 'lite' 'till like 2200 RPM's, whereas on my 555, it was like---'instant'. I know that my friends turbo VW '01 was MUCH different in throttle responsne than the '03, and the turbo is the only major thing changes. Is that all it is????????? I HATE THE TURBO LAG!!!!! Any one else??????

Mine spools around 1000rpm at 50 and you nail it hold on!

never had that problem with mine. My 610 spooled every bit as fast as the 555 motor.

Is it possible that you have a loose/leaking intercooler hose or intercooler?

maybe you have the plastic intercooler and it has a leak. in another thread some members said they have broken the intercooler. Take a look at it as it may still be under warranty

My intercooler is the metal one, I suspect it may have a leak. My girlfriend wrecked it in the rain, and the intercooler was bent about 3" off center on the bottom.



How do I know if it's leaking?

I can relate to this problem and i beleive it to be a defueling issue and i believe the solenoid on the 04. 5's and newer turbos are the problem. I could be wrong but i seen my own truck and many others with this problem. On my personal truck i noticed the problem went away when i installed an aftermarket turbo(solenoid was still plugged into harness but zip tied to the block). The other remedy for this that i have seen is to install a boost elbow in the factory wastegate hose.

get some PVC pipe plugs and plug the boost lines coming out of the innercooler. Tap one of the plugs with a schrader valve and through some air pressure to it. If at first the leak isn't easy to find, spray it with some soapy water.

I have TST's boost elbow on there, the one that has an air line tapped into the intake manifold. Stock seloniod still plugged into the harness on wastegate.

So do I have to pull the entire intercooler out and pump it up? 40 psi?

you can do it without pulling the innercooler, but pulling the innnercooler really isn't that bad. Just pull the boot from the intake, stick one cap in there. Then pull the boot off of the turbo, stick the other cap in that boot. Then pressurize the sytem.
