Off Roading 7.5" Rims on 3500? Possible with Spacers?

I was wondering what size tires will fit on a stock height 2500 four wheel drive? I was messin around measuring on a friends truck and his partially worn 33x12. 5x15 measured out to be the same height as my stock 265's. So I was considering 33x13. 5x16 super swampers if I could deffinatelly find out that they fit. ohh and what is the best track bar or fix to go with since I only have 25000 miles on my 2001 and it is on it's third one? any help and oppinions are appreciated thanks SETH

Which wheels do you have, stock steel or aluminum? Or do you have aftermarket? On my truck 315/75R16lt's fit w/ minor rubbing. I have the stock 16x8 aluminum wheels on mine. Any thing wider than a 285 tire is too wide for the stock 16x7 steelies. Also changing to an aftermarket wheel that has a different backspacing than stock will affect the max tire size that you can fit. 305's on aftermarket wheels would rub as bad or worse on my truck. the tires you are considering won't work well on the any of the stock wheels, you'd need about a 10" wide wheel for the tires to wear evenly. They'll probably fit but they are going to rub BAD on the wheelwells and/or the control arms when you turn

Thanks for the info. I currently have the stock aluminum 16 x 8 wheels but have been planning on going to aftermarket at the same time as changing tire size. I was planning on going to a 10 inch wide rim but now knowing that it doesnt fit well I will probably not do so. Do the 315's look good? I am deffinately interested in getting a combination of both good looks and useability. I am very interested in finding the best combination to use so any one else had any other luck? Thanks again Seth

Ohh and one other thought I was wondering if any one would have a reasonable explaination as to why 33x12. 5x15 would seem to have the same overall height installed on a truck as my stock 265's?

Here's how my tires measure up.

33x12. 5x15 generic mud,worn pretty good-31 1/2"

33x12. 5x15 BFG mud, almost no miles-32"

32x11. 5x15 BFG mud, 3/4 tread left-30 3/4"

265/75/16 stock michelins, 25,000 miles-30 1/4"

These are alll installed height.

So my 33's are quite a bit taller, even when worn. Hope this helps.

You need to look at the max. load rating, not the letter rating to give you a better idea of what the tire can handle. A BFG all-terrain 295/75/16D is rated at 3415 lbs. , which is the same as the stock 265/75/16E Michelins.

Eventhough I would'nt want to tow with the Super Swampers, the Super Swamper Radial 36/12. 5/16 is rated at 3640 lbs. ! They would'nt last long, have too much sidewall flex, and probably get too hot, but they have a high rating.

That is a great point about the load. I have another problem, I cant raise the height of my truck and still park it at work. 265/75-16E is a hard tire to shop for.

KC, I'm not trying to pressure you in any way, but the 285/75's should (theoretically) raise your truck about 1/2". Maybe just a little more. I've taken my truck into one parking garage. Never again!! I don't think I had a 1/2" to spare.

That's what I was doing. Nailed the antenna and was already committed to going foward. Had to get out of the way of the little mechanical gate arm thingy. I barely scraped the top of the cab.

While we are on the subject of tires..

I ordered new wheels. I am running LT305/85R16's (36" X 10") on OEM wheels now. At 2/3 turn the tire is very close to the plastic wheel well cover. About 1/4"- 1/8". They have never hit in 3 years. Do you think I will have problems with the tires rubbing on the new wheels?

OEM Wheel:

16 x 6. 5

4 3/4" Backspace

+ 24mm (. 937) Offset

New Wheel:

16 X 8

4 9/16" Backspace

0 Offset

HEMI@Dart,

What brand/model tires are these? I'm having trouble locating tires in that size.

As it stands now, there are only a few parking spots I can park, other diesel owners are having the same problem.

I have seen some new Dueller Revo's come in 265/75-16E 3450lbs. But they are brand new with out alot of info out there.

They are Deman Coyote's. Only a 6 ply, load range C tire. I have about 60,000 miles on them and still 1/2 tread left.

Only a 2400lb rating? Seems like you would have to keep the fronts at close to max pressure. You didn't have a problem with the center wearing when you used them on the 6. 5" rim?

Thanks for the info. I'll keep those in mind.
