I only use my truck for pulling a car trailer, maybe several thousand miles a year.

What kind, and what size tire should I buy? Stock is the lt245's, but discount tire's web site says they can be replaced with lt235/85/r16's.

The 235's are larger in diameter (31. 8 VS 30. 6) and have less of a tread width (7 VS 7. 5).

What size and brand of tires would you put on this truck for these conditions?

I put on a set of Michelin 265/75/16's on my '95 2wd. It looks good with the little bit wider tread of the 265's compared to the tiny 245 donuts.

I also put a set of 265/75's on my former 94 2wd. They looked great, seemed to fill the wheel wells better than the 245's

Prostock,

I have the Cooper SRMII's in the 235-85 size. It,s my second set. First set lasted over 65K miles. They were still legal when I took them off. I paid $104 each installed at a local supplier I have used for years. Good tires for the money.

The truck currently has 265's on it, but they are only load range C.

They are a mud terrain tire, and I can't stand the noise.

The tire rack has Dunlop Grandtrek's in this size and load range for $78/each.

How far off is the speedometer/odometer when going to this size?

What advantage would there be to going to the narrower 235/85/16?

Thanks for your help.

Prostock,

The change in size made my speedo right on. The tire I got are load reange E, ten ply comercial grade. They have a highway tread. If you are pulling a trailer or any load in the bed don't compromise. Make sure you get a load range E tire. Don't forget, the Cummins puts a lot of weight on the front tires, way more than a gas engine!
