Well, here comes the time when i realize i need some sort of locker/limited slip diff in my truck. i can spin the right rear through third gear and its crazy to try to drive this thing in the rain or snow. when it raining im afraid to step on the gas in 4th! what would you guys recommend?

Ask "bgilbert" in Terre Haute if his friendly junkyard has a Dana 70 with limited-slip differential and go looking yourself.

Till then, throw some weight into the bed behind the axle & wedge it there.

thanks, tried that weight thing. seems like i still have trouble with traction and slows my truck down. lol

Yea, I know.

I don't know enough about differentials/lockups/lsd things to advise anyone other than to send them to the folks who really KNOW stuff. I bought my D250 with a limited-slip differential. It works.

But, our last year in Virginia, I threw a mess of weight in the bed and headed to work in the snow only to find out the damn LSD wants the truck to go straight, even if you want to turn. Finally had to put it into Neutral to glide around the corner, then back to Drive to continue.

I'll never know enough, but maybe I can get by.

I had the same traction issues with my open diff.

I had the Dana Power Loc installed and no more peg leg. It's quiet and smooth.

LOL... ROF

I have tried to hot rod the 90 by performing a burn-out... ... ..... Yea RIGHT!!

The right rear tire spins and the truck don't go anywhere. Kinda an embarrassment. To make it look good you have to moderate the brake with one foot and floor it w/the other. Then it makes a nice big cloud and will slowly begin to roll forward.

You can still spin both tires without a LS/locker. Just turn a little to the left as you launch. :-laf

Well, you could weld the spider gears together, or lead them, but then the truck will be no fun to drive on the street, because you have to turn. The rear is welded in my 75, and it is horrible to drive in town, on any pavement for that matter. Another would be, here for positive traction, you could install this in your driveway. This will be positive traction, no resetting of the backlash.

I would however recommend that you do check the backlash the next time you have the cover off, and make sure it is tight. Dana 70's are pretty well known for the backlash getting out of whack and breaking parts.

Have fun.
