I have a friend that is thinking about pumping up the power on his 12 valve and I didn't have all the info for him, since I'm a 24 valve owner myself. I told him about the timing plate for the injection pump, a bigger exhaust and air filter. What about injectors. What's a good all around injector for the 12 valve. I'm also looking for more info on that plate. Any other advise I can pass on to him will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

KDP, gauges, 370's, transmission or clutch. what year and transmission is the truck. 10plate and 3kgsk would be a good start after he gets gauges andkdp taken care of.

Need to know what transmission he has. If it is a manual he could only go with a #11 on stock clutch. Gauges first, airflow enhancements, plate and GSK would be a major change over stock.

need more information about the truck straight shift or auto, such as mine but the auto will need a heavy torque convertor . I went with GB triple lock about a hundred thousand ago and I tow heavy, like 14k, every weekend a number 8 plate gives it enough power to pull it easily. :D

He has an auto now, but is thinking of doing a 5 or 6 spd swapout if it's not too difficult. What is 3kgsk and GSK? I haven't heard of those words. With all you are suggesting, will it still be reliable?

This is from piers site:

"The PDR Governor Spring Kit is a special combination of Bosch springs and Piers' unique design on seats. The GSK is designed to allow your pump to rev past factory settings without compromising pump safety. 3000RPM and 4000RPM kits available. 4000RPM kits required use of heavy duty valve springs. Fits 1994-1998 12V Cummins diesels. "

Two places to get them:

Many people will tell you this is one of the best things you can do and I would agree. It makes the your truck much more fun to drive.

If you didnt notice much difference then why did you list it as a modification for someone else to try?

I know there is a big difference between the 4000 GSK and stock. Maybe not so much improvement with just a 3GSK, I dont know as I am no expert.

Everyone talks about installing the GSK but mine bone stock would pull to 3100 before defueling. Thats wound up plenty tight for me. I turned the rack pressure up and unhooked the waist gate and still put down almost 300 HP.

From what I hear a set of 370's and a piers 35 really wakes them up.

ok let me spell it out a little better. first i installed the 4k springs in the pump but not the valve springs. felt a little faster when taking off but that was it. i didnt take it past 3k for the obvious reasons(dropping valve). then i decided to pull the little spring(now its a 3k kit). lost the faster feeling from take off. i could not feel any difference when i droped down to the 3k kit. i was told by alot of people that the 3k kit would be faster. i did however slip the clutch the day after i pulled the springs. i could not feel a thing but im guessing the clutch can.

the reason i listed it is because its cheap, easy to do, and every time someone asks this question it is mentioned. i might have felt it if i had the defueling of a 10 plate but thats not the case. besides i did clerify that i didnt feel much difference in "mine". that doesnt speak for anyone else.

if he wants to get the gsk get the 4k kit w/o valve springs. its like 5 bucks more and you wont have to find the little springs later. you could just pull the stock plate and grind on it a little the turn the star wheel towards the front of the engine. more smoke but its funner. get an adjustable boost elbow too. i hit 40 psi with the BD one.

Running 3100 is not the same as pulling to 3100! A 215 pump... like yours will begin de-fueling at 2400 or so, if you put a set of 3K's in one it will rev to 3600 area but pull hard till 3000+..... FYI!

Hey Jim, Not to hijack, but how do these springs do with a 95 5sp 12V? 175 pump I believe. Help it out alot compared to the 215 pump? Thanks. Jim

For any other pump get 4K springs, they need it but will never make high RPM from my experience. EVERY 12V needs Gov Springs and a plate..... period!

If you're anywhere near Georgia, then I'd go to Garmon Diesel. . I took Jeff my 95 auto and he worked on it for an hour to an hour and a half. . It was a different truck when he was finished. . He did a 4,000 GSK, timing, removed the fuel plate, and a K&N filter. . It was very peppy, and it still pulled great. . The torque converter shuttered in overdrive though, when I got down on it. . The truck stayed like that for several months. . Now it's gettin' crazy. .

It WILL PULL HARD to 3000 and then creep up to 3100. It doesn't defuel intil 3000. :D I can be turning 2500 let tho boost come down to 10psi and then stomp it and get smoke.
