I've got a 5" exhaust, and the entire AFE kit (filter, open box, torque tube). I'm wanting to avoid a box due to my heavy foot, the clutch and the fact that 65% of the time I'm hauling heavy.

I've thought about injectors (downside is the cost, upside is the mileage/power increase) and possibly a turbo upgrade. Any other tips on the 600's yet?

I've thought about the high-ram from Banks, but it seems very similar to having a 3" exhaust and adding a 4" muffler midstream and necking back down to 3".

Yea, i'm waiting for something also. not sure what yet. made a run west to montana running with others. a 01 ctd-he got 5mpg better-a96 chevy 454 not much worse than mine. all with smaller trailers with about the same load, atv s. 2200 mi round trip=9. 5 mpg. I don't care what anyone says, these trucks get horse s*** mpgs so we dont need replys telling how GREAT there mpg is. TST has a box saying mpg increase and more power but you have to be carefull with egt i hear. oh yea, our trip was mostly at 75 mph. say howdy to your dad, trailer works great, Dave-Foley,mn

Dave,

Will do, glad everything is working great!

MPG is a HUGE concern. I'm not sure what's going on... towing with the AFE my mileage seems to have increased substantially (was seeing around 9. 5mpg with under 20k, now I'm seeing 12. 5) But empty it seems to have faltered  I was seeing around 16. 5 empty and now it appears to be down to 15. 5.

One of the techs at Banks called me today to tell me they have their kit available for the 600. I mentioned my concern about EGT's and he said they have an internal monitor that watches the EGT's and begins to back off when they sky-rocket, not sure how valid that is or not.

I don't recall where, but I found some dyno information when I was thinking about the high-ram for my truck. The person who dyno'ed before and after the high-ram actually lost power by adding it (but commented that it looked cool). :) Anyhow, in his post he mentioned calling Banks :-{} about it. They told him that it was designed specifically for the complete six-gun bundle and with the rest of the "Banks" upgrades he would see a power increase.

Food for thought.

Then why not take the stock piece off and powder coat it??

I'm not sure how it would cost power unless it throws the air-flow pattern way off. Banks makes visually stimulating products, I'd rather have physically stimulating products.

Get some gauges installed next and then you will be ready for a box. Most with boxes are seeing better MPG but don't expect pre 3gen numbers. The boxes for your truck will be perfected soon, then let somebody else run them awhile to find the one you don't want. ;)

I emailed tst. they say they are still working to improve mpg. they have gained some but think they can get better. lots more power tho.
