Something for you hunters....

My girls took my truck!!!

I took my 76 Jeep CJ-5 out for the first time in two years. I now remember why it has been two years. I have a bad back and hip. I drove it on gravel roads and some small hills, not rough at all. Now my back is killing me. My Jeep is stock other than one piece axles and a detrot locker. Suspention is the same one it came from the factory with. Seats are OEM replacement.

My question is this, what am I to do? Sell it, I have over $10,000 in it both the jeep and the complete rebuild? I will never get out what I paid for it. Do they make aftermarket seats that give more support in the lumbar range? Give it to my best friends girl, who is a few months shy of 14. I have known Morgaine and her mom for 14 years now. If I gave it to Morgaine I would have to pull the locker out so it would be more street friendly. I would hate to see here wreck it and get hurt. Plus she wants it black, it is yellow and orange now. Well it would give me a year and a half to get it up to her specks.

I have had a CJ-5 since 1987 and can't imagine living without one. But now I can't drive it except for short trips on a paved or smooth gravel road. So what do I do with it???????

Aftermarket seats Oo. www.recaro-seats.com

Plus there's lots of other manufacturers out there.

That's the trouble with today's "kids", try to give 'em a vehicle and they'll say it's not the right color.

You built it the way you wanted it. ;)

Make it "Fit":D

Aftermarket seats will make a HUGE difference. I have Beard Super Seats - offroad racing seats used in buggies & trucks - in my '79 CJ-7. Talk about an improvement over the stock POS seats... . Recaro makes great seats and I've seen articles/ads for air sprung seats for CJs - I'd have to do some digging in my 'library' to find the article.

You might consider a shackle reversal and new springs & shocks as well to help with the root cause of the problem.

Now what about your back? You say it is your low back. Have you seen a doctor lately? If your back pain is just due to strain/tightness etc. then there is no cause to worry about damage from bouncing, but if your have a bulging disk, it is a very different story. Does the pain go away pretty quickly? If so that is good news, it is probably NOT due to a disk problem. Are you overweight? If so, and if you can correct that, it will make a difference.

My 2 cents worth of advice is to drive it again, which will of course cause pain, and THEN go to a GOOD doctor, either a Chiropractor or a D. O. (Osteopath) or an M. D. , and ask them to diagnose what is causing the pain. Then get their prognosis.

e-mail me if you want more info.

Thanks guys

rrausch, My back pain is from an accident with a 86 kenworth pulling twin 40' belly dumps full of gravel and me in a 75 CJ 5. T12, L1 disk is protruding into the ther___ sack. Spine is fusing itself together and arthritis in T10-L6. Last been to the Doc a few months ago. Will never get better and lift no more than 10 lbs and carry 0 lbs. This last year I have gained weight. I am 6'6" and 265 lbs. Before the accident I was in good shape. I am losing weight now but it is diffeicult because I am not physical anymore.

My back hurts because of the jolting. I am sure it is because I am compressing my spine. I can't lift 20 lbs over my head because the pain. It just may be my Jeep days are over. :{ :{ :{ I will try the seats, they need to be replaced anyway.
