I have had my blue box for 2 years and am wondering what I am losing out on by not doing anything with the timing. Is there a box I could add to complement it or should I just get an EZ Comp and remove the BB.

You can add any of the "timing" boxes... .....

EZ, VA, and a whole bunch of others have cropped up lately.

If you want a "all in one thing" then it would be best to goto the Edge Comp.

Here's my uneducated 2 pesos.

I kept my old blue box and put it on my new truck along with a boost elbow. It pulls like a banshee and the EGT's stay below where they were stock. Fuel economy is OK, 12. 5 MPG towing at least 12,000 lb with a heavy foot including scaling the high passes on Highway 395 at 65 MPH.

Before you go much further I would check and see what your transmission will take. It is definitely your weakest link.

I have made the transmission upgrades, suncoast TC, valve body, pressure loc and torque loc. I was wondering if there was a timing box that was superior to the othes? I like the BB but more is better.

I'd go with the EZ, just piggyback the map plugs. I've never tried another combo, but the EZ with the TST PM3 works well. Should be the same for the Blue Box.

FDIESEL,

If you have a 4-wire Blue Box you will be fine just adding a timing box. Opinions on which timing box is a lot like belly buttons, everyone has one. I'd call Chip at Blue Chip diesel, he sells more then one brand, reprograms some and won't steer you wrong. Larry

'EZ' and 'Comp' afre two different boxesone is timing, and the other is a combination timing and fueling box all built into one.

Yeah, I'd say just keep your Blue Box and just add an EZ (timing) box to it. This setup works great. I am running a similar stacked setup with an EZ and my TST Powermax, and Rob Hanson is doing the same thing... he has an EZ stacked with his Blue Box.

I think alot of folks are happy with the EZ, so that is the way I will go with this. I do have a 4 wire BB, thanks for all the help

FWIW, I ran a 4-wire BB w/ my VA box, and the truck ran great.

Kinda wish I didnt sell the Blue box. It had a nice smooth delivery, and with the added mini-toggle switches, changing levels was easy.

The only drawback, is you had to change the settings with the motor off. That wasnt a problem, because once you find the level you like theres no reason to change the settings.

Also, it ran best with the BB green wire (map sensor) not connected. Gave great throttle response down low, but you have to be careful about too much smoke.

Im sure an EZ would give great results as well.

I went from a DDTTPM to the Blue Box. I wanted to stay away from advanced timing. I think cold weather and advanced timing don't mix that well. I think my truck runs very smooth right now and I'm just waiting for the cooler weather to know for sure. I don't think timing would be worth the added expense of switching boxes IMHO. Good luck with your decision.
