Keeping Black Truck Clean

I currently own a 2000 Dodge Ram CTD. It has 127k miles on it, and is in need of some repairs (typical ram stuff. ) I have been wanting a new truck since last year, as I get bored with vehicles quite quickly, plus I really like some of the stuff on the newer Rams, plus I like the looks better too. I dont really want to sell the 00 as I would maybe get 14k for it as it has some dents here and there and the underside looks like the beaches after an oil tanker spill. I am at a tough spot, as I would rather buy a new CTD and not a used one, as ya never know what your going to get. But my time is running out on being able to buy a new CTD without all the new Emissions BS that is coming quickly.

I paid off my truck last year when we bought our house, and not having a payment has been really really nice. I guess what I am asking for advice on is, should I just keep my 2000 and deal with all the stuff I dont like about the 2nd gens, or sell it, and buy a new one? I probably could swing a truck payment again, but if I dont have to, I would rather not.

My other option would be wait 32 months and buy an 05 truck from a contractor that I do work for at times. His lease will be up in 32k miles, and its a very clean truck (auto though :( ) doesnt even have a scratch in the bed. But by then, he said he will have 100k miles on it.

I really like the new 06 looks, and the idea of a warranty is very very appealing!

oh well, just had to vent i guess.

06 st

i have a 06 quad work truck it is very nice . it cost 31500 in may i have seen 30k for st and 31k for slt. 20 mpg at 70mph. kp

sure, just push me further... . :-laf

If TG could get me a smoking deal on a QC LWB 4x4 CTD 6spd with leather... who knows... . :-laf

(why do i have expensive taste? I honestly cant stand cloth interiors anymore... they just are not comfortable, guess I am spoiled... lol)

Nothing wrong with buying a CLEAN 100k truck. Loose a LOT less money that way and 100k is nothing on one of these if half way maintained. The auto is durable and would be MY first choice.

I would sell the 00 and get your 06. Now is the time to get a new truck. Soon the only thing you will be able to get will be stuffed with emission's BS. If you can swing the payment go for it. You will be happy with the 06. I like mine even more than I liked my 04. 5.

And if you plan on holding onto your truck for a good many years, I would buy new. Depreciation has little effect if you plan on keeping the truck for a long time. You will have a new truck without anyone else's mile's/abuse.

My . 0001 cents. :D

With the employee pricing going on, I would say buy the new truck now. It doesn't have the emissions system that will be on the mid 2007s and it will get better milage than the mid 2007s (larger engine, same power and more emission stuff is worse mileage).

Sell your truck yourself if you don't want to trade it in for a new one. The amount you get out of your truck would be a down payment for the new one.

I traded in a 2002 Toyota Tundra 4x4 with the access cab on a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad Cab Dooly and don't regret it.

I honestly wish I could keep the 00 and get a new truck. I would love to make the 00 a trail rig "toy" and use the newer rig to tow it around and also for work. Another reason I really want a new truck if for the simple fact of a long box, for work, I HATE the short box!

If you can get $14K for the old truck, thats one hell of a down payment. It would be like knocking $280/month off of your monthly note.

The time to buy a truck is right now, dealers are giving them away with these rebates and specials.

BTW, you seem to like customizing your own trucks too, based on your sig. Just get an SLT and modify it like you want. Its less expensive than buying a fully loaded Laramie, and it will be personalized. You can get leather seat skins for $500 on ebay, and put those in yourself. My last truck was a fully loaded Laramie, but I honestly don't miss all the fancy stuff in my new '06.
