I have a stock 2500, 2002, ctd, auto, 355's, with guages, and a 150/150 FASS. I just towed my 13K 5th wheel. I have plenty of throttle but my egt

hits the 1250 mark pretty easy. I pulled a 6% grade for about 3 miles.

I was down to 2nd gear and 40 to 45 mph at the top. Again I had a lot

of throttle left but had to keep the RPM's above 2500 to keep the EGTs

in line; hence downshifting to second. Also my boost did not go over 20psi. Is this inline or should I be getting a higher boost? I am planing on running in the mountains to Montana so I want to make it right.

I noticed my truck (just got it in March from Arizona) has a smaller muffler looking device about 6" in front of the muffler. I thought CAT's were only on

2003's and above. It does not look like a typical CAT, just a small muffler almost like a resonator. (In front of the muffler?) Does anybody know what this is? Maybe a California truck? Do you think it would help egt's to remove it? Would a 4" exhaust help lower EGT's?

Any experienced answers would be greatly appreciated. One fellow suggested a "Workhorse". I seem to get mixed messages about it though. Anybody run one in a 2nd gen? Oo.

You are running 20 PSI because that is what bone stock does. That smaller muffler is a resonator. You want at least a 4" depending on what your final goals are. I believe that as an 02, you should be an HX turbo (probably a 35?). If you are doing alot of mountain towing you will probably want to look into a brake, if you do keep in mind your future turbo options, some turbos won't attach to whatever exhaust brake you have.

Your EGT's don't make sense to me but maybe this is what stock does, some of the guru's here will beable to cover that really well.

I have two suggestions for you. First, buy the service manual for your truck, I got mine from Geno's. Second, search the posts and you will find most of your questions answered.

Thank you all for your responses. I believe I

am going to trade up to the 07. 5 with an exhaust brake

and a little more stock power.

Anyone want to buy a VERY clean 2002?

i have an afe stage 1 cold air a 60 hp bully dog chip 4 in exhaust and pulling a load of 31,000 i could hit 1400 egt temp if i let it stay in overdrive to long i to have more throttle left but sometimes have to lock out the od and then i have no problem with egts going up steep windy roads that go to our place wich neighbors star valley wyoming. pulling a load that you are pulling i would maybe suspect a partially plugd radiator this spring i was hauling a an international 1466 for a guy and i could not keep my egts down the next day i took my truck to the car wash and spent about ten minutes washing the front of the condensor and transmission cooler, intrecooler out as best as i could and that realy lowerd the egts right down i also washed the radiator out realy good from the back side i left it in the truck but the best way would be to pull it out and wash it really good .

Hello Alphacowboy,

It is:

2002 Sport White 128K mies with leather interior in very good condition.

Long box, 3:55 anti-spin, automatic, Aluminum wheels brand

new 245 mich. M/S tires. I put a FASS 150/150 on it.

It has ISSOPRO EGT, Boost, & Fuel Pressure on the pillar with

Trans Temp on the steering column. Also has a sand cast aluminum

2 quart plus transmission pan. I bouhgt it out of Arizona in March, never

seen salt. The bottom side is like new. It does not use oil.

Hope this helps.

Oh- it has a Line-X bed liner also. It never towed

a 5th wheel or gooseneck Trailer before I had it. I pulled

my 5th wheel trailer once with it.

And (again) it is a Extended cab with Power Vision heated mirrors,

I took the adiator out and cleaned it. (as typical it was 50% plugged)

Temp guage never moves off of 190.
