I stumbled across an 06 3500 4x4 mega with about 125k miles. I am going to go look at it in the morning I am comfortable about what to look for on the drive train, but are there any quirky things about the 06's to look for. Truck isn't exactly what I would pick out but price is way to good not to at least consider.
It has a cm skirted flatbed on it. The pictures make the ball look like it is a little behind the axle. Do any of you have experience tow with the cm short bed flat beds.
No experience with the CM flat bed... ..... but as far as the cab... .
Possible Negatives... .
1) Driver's seat will need the rug/foam build-up
2) Some issues with '06 dash clusters, check tach operation closely
3) Barely adequate A/C
4) Check both rear door windows closely for chips and cracks, they bothered on some Megas (I have had to change the RR already)
5) Check all heater control functions including recirc
6) Battery power needs to be disconnected for a reboot when temp display flips out and the dome lights won't stay on more than 5 seconds, about once a year
Positives... ... .
1) Tight, quiet cab
2) All kinds of places to store one's crap, even behind the rear seats in the floor
3) More dome lights than a School Bus (if you can't find something the kids dropped on the floor after dark with the door open you shouldn't be driving)
4) Rear doors open 90 degrees (make sure kids and adults are careful in a parking lot in regards to other vehicles and objects), worse if wind is blowing.
5) Very easy to tend car seats, load cargo, etc.
6) Swiss Army Knife rear seats, fold the backs down alone or pull the lower release and the whole seat kneels to create a flat floor
7) Interior fabric dirties easily, but cleans equally easy. A Bissell Pet Pro will bring the whole thing back to new in about a half hour
8) Rear seating is superior to the front for comfort
There is no going back once you have one.
JMHO.
